My husband bought me tickets to a concert at The Rock in Newark for my birthday. We took the train into the city with enough time for dinner. Walked over to the Spanish Tavern - less than a mile from Penn Station Newark to the restaurant without a reservation. When we first walked in the door there was a table... More

Been going here since early 70's days at Seton Hall. Excellent consistent food. Many choices especially for seafood. Relaxing room with white table cloths. They have their own parking lot with an attendant watching. It's on the safe side of the city in Ironbound.

From the neighborhood and the outside, one would think that this place would be exceptionally sketchy. However...books and their covers, let me tell you. First, I was greeted with an open door as I approached...not sure how they saw me coming...by a very well dressed gentlemen that put most of my concerns aside. Then, I was further eased by a... More

I travel thru NJ a few times for pleasure and stay with friends and eat here. Always good, often great food. The twin lobster deal is the best. The bread is fair but the soup is really nice and its free, even at lunch, with a meal. Good service and value. Very good food. Busy on weekends and holidays so... More

Actually I have been here twice, in July and then August. As a frequent traveler, I usually stick to the routine. There are a few decent Spanish places in the area, but we always going to the same old place. But we have seen the signs of Spanish Tavern all along, finally, we gave it a try (this July). I... More

Warmly greeted and promptly seated. Garlic shrimp and chorizo appetizers were good. Bread service good but rolls were cold. Complementary soup was tasty but lukewarm. Cod was swimming in oil but otherwise very good. Salmon was a very large portion. Shrimp and steak was very well prepared as was the grilled pargo. White sangria pitcher was left bone dry.... Chocolate... More

My dear friend and I stopped here for tapas and drinks on our way to our hotel (although they have a shuttle that will pick you up at the hotel, bring you to the restaurant and back again - beginning at 5:00). When we walked in there were 2 seats at the bar (very small - maybe 8 stools total)... More

The food and service was very good at this restaurant. They provide the complementary soup with your lunch or dinner which on the day that I visited was a potato leek soup that was very good! The waiter was kind enough to tell us that the dish we selected was enough for two people so we were able to share... More

Shuttle driver, friendly and attentive! Sangria and paella were excellent! Service - average; took long to come take our orders...and lagged after getting our entrees. Our table was too close to another so we heard their conversation. Restaurant was half empty, so there was no reason to seat us close to another group. Poor management!
