Brought family to celebrate my wife bday, it was well worth the 1.5 hrs driving time. Had as appetizers Crab meat stuffed avocados, Croquetas de Bacalao and Spanish grilled sausages. All very good, but the avocado is clear winner. For main course the Paella Valenciana is just fantastic, it is the real thing, very good, very tasty, it is served... More

Very good Spanish restaurant in Newark. welcoming staff, above average food & drink & reasonable prices, what more could you ask for. Always have the chorizo & shrimp in garlic sauce for appetizers & are especially fond of their Paella although all chicken dishes are great too.

Ate dinner on a Saturday night after glowing reviews from a friend. The Spanish Tavern didn't disappoint. Greeted at the door and promptly seated. Wait staff was great. Not a big dining room, but the decor was nice, not over the top. Passed on the apps to save room for dessert but was served a bowl of potato leek soup.... More

This is the spot we loved, being there many times. The food is traditional, service is attentive. One of the best kept secret in Menlo Park. Highly recommended.

My restaurant on a side street. It appears dark from the outside but inside is very lively and welcoming. Staff is excellent .Recommend Paella and sangria. Good for groups of 4-6 in my opinion.

I've been dining at the Spanish Tavern for years and can honestly say everything is still just as delicious as my first time there. Although I always browse the menu in hopes of trying something different, but I always stick to my favorite the Paella Valenciana which pairs perfectly with their Red Sangria. The clams casino or garlic shrimp are... More

There are a number of "Spanish" cuisine restaurants in the Iron-Bound Section of Newark and I have dined in a number of them. Some of these restaurants are excellent and some not; Spanish Tavern is one of the best. My sister came-in from NYC on PATH and I met her at Penn Station, and we drove over to Spanish Tavern.... I was with my husband just for some food, but we were delighted , the food is exquisite, the dishes are delicates, the place is clean, and friendly staff. We really love this place, and is one of our favorites in Newark.

I kept hearing this was number 1 rated... eh, I was not that impressed. There was a whole list of specials, so I chose Sea Bass off the list of specials, only for the waiter to come back a few minutes later and tell me they were all out of sea bass. Um, ok. I asked him what I should... More
