I was brought here by a Portuguese friend who had claimed this restaurant had great food. I was very glad to have gone with him. You can eat more casual in the bar area or have a more upscale dining experience in the adjacent dining room. The food selection was outstanding, The sizes were very large and the prices were... As a first generation Portuguese- American I know the difference between good and bad Portuguese food. At Sol Mar your guaranteed to get great Portuguese food. I say try the Bacalhau "Cod Fish" it's a Portuguese specialty. Make sure to sit in the bar area with great views of Ferry Street. Great place to sit back enjoy a great meal... More

We had a Saturday night reservation but the restaurant wasn't crazy packed so not having a reservation for 10 people wouldn't have been a long wait. My husband and I both ordered the filet mignon medium rare, mine a bit more on the medium side, hubby was perfect to order. The price was amazing for the amount of meat we... More

After a long day... And traveling through NJ we made our annual pit stop! Reservations were accepted... Place was NOISY, NOISY, NOISY!!!!!! Table appetizers as always were delicious... Dinner was good- portions were decent... Love the desserts and coffee. Waiters are efficient, friendly and eager to please! Never had a bad meal in 10 years!!!!

Was in the IronBound on business by myself and decided to have a late meal at Sol Mar on Ferry st. I have been there before with a number of guests and always had a good meal. This time I sat at the bar solo and enjoyed an excellent dinner of grilled cod and fresh vegetables after a martini served... More

From the moment you enter you are welcomed. The food is delicious and well flavored. We had paella for two and the broiled seafood platter for two and there was still so much left over. The seafood is extremely fresh When the grilled octopus is available it is worth having.

The original Sol Mar when it opened was our wedding caterer. We use to attend Fado shows on the weekend. We, after many years decided to return for dinner one Saturday night. The place seemed extremely popular by the number of people waiting for a table. We could only think that the food was superb. When finally got seated and... More

If you go to the Ironbound in Newark there is a chance that you end up in one of the "eatery" all along Ferry street that call themself "portuguese restaurant" and are really "tourist traps". Go away from the main street and go where the local go; just check around and you will have a real food and experience. This... More

I've eaten here many times before and food is always great. On this day the grilled bass was excellent and so was the cod fish, the cod fish portions were huge, enough to take home for 2 more meals. Whether you sit in the bar area, casual and laid back or the dinning room for a more 'white table cloth'... More
