Try the picanha if you're a meat lover!

Was at this restaurant with a party of 13 last week. We're all from Portugal so we enjoy the typical Portuguese cuisine. I had a rare picanha served with black beans and rice. The Bacalhau à Brás is also a good dish to try if you like codfish. And red sangria too.

Some dining experiences are soon forgotten, while others are truly memorable. Sol Mar provided the later in a recent visit. A friend who frequently eats in the Ironbound recommended Sol Mar. We made a reservation online for a 5:00 PM Sunday dinner. Upon arrival at the restaurant, we were quickly greeted by a waiter who seated us within several minutes.... More

Many people go to Newark with the idea of experiencing a real Portuguese meal and they end up in one of the many "tourist traps" that people looking for an Italian experience experience in Little Italy in Manhattan. I was lucky of having friends from Oporto that during a visit in the USA taken me to SOL-MAR. I filled like... More

The food here was above average with avg prices. big selection of wines big... food is flavor n to overpowering. Best part is we stayed at Newark Marriott n they (Sol Mar) offered to pick you up from your hotel and dropped you back off. The guy was even nice enough to let us walk around the neighbor then come... More

I made reservations and arrived on time. There was a couple in front of us in line waiting to be seated. The female hostess ignored us the entire time we waited. The 1st couple were seated and so were the couple that came after us. We were left standing there and the hostess never came back. While standing there we... More

Thus Portuguese restaurant is very cute inside and the food and service were excellent. The waiters were so nice and accommodating. We had the garlic shrimp and the surf and turf. Both were very tasty and cooked just right. The bread was very fresh and delicious. My one small complaint is about the Portuguese potatoes...I like when they are very... More

The food is always excellent, from appetizers to the main course. Love the fresh and high quality seafood. However the service is not great, the waiters are very moody and sometimes impolite. But I love the food, I definitely recommend this place.

This is an update to a previous review one year ago. Upon revisiting this restaurant, I still feel it is the best of all the Portuguese restaurants in Newark in terms of the food and atmosphere. The front room is bland, but sit in the back for a more charming atmosphere. There is no upscale service in this restaurant. While... More

Newark's Ironbound neighborhood has some great Spanish and Portuguese restaurants, including Forno's, Adega, and others. This one is right up there. Excellent wine list, interesting appetizers, and great seafood and paella.

This is one of my favorite places. The food is always good. They have plenty of variety. My favorite dish is 'Carne de Porco à Alentejana' which is extremely good there not to mention the Paehla.. yum yum.. lets not forget the Sangria. I love the red. The bread there is also top quality. The prices there are also very... More
