From the moment you enter you are welcomed. The food is delicious and well flavored. We had paella for two and the broiled seafood platter for two and there was still so much left over. The seafood is extremely fresh When the grilled octopus is available it is worth having.

The original Sol Mar when it opened was our wedding caterer. We use to attend Fado shows on the weekend. We, after many years decided to return for dinner one Saturday night. The place seemed extremely popular by the number of people waiting for a table. We could only think that the food was superb. When finally got seated and... More

If you go to the Ironbound in Newark there is a chance that you end up in one of the "eatery" all along Ferry street that call themself "portuguese restaurant" and are really "tourist traps". Go away from the main street and go where the local go; just check around and you will have a real food and experience. This... More

I've eaten here many times before and food is always great. On this day the grilled bass was excellent and so was the cod fish, the cod fish portions were huge, enough to take home for 2 more meals. Whether you sit in the bar area, casual and laid back or the dinning room for a more 'white table cloth'... More

Some dining experiences are soon forgotten, while others are truly memorable. Sol Mar provided the later in a recent visit. A friend who frequently eats in the Ironbound recommended Sol Mar. We made a reservation online for a 5:00 PM Sunday dinner. Upon arrival at the restaurant, we were quickly greeted by a waiter who seated us within several minutes.... More

Many people go to Newark with the idea of experiencing a real Portuguese meal and they end up in one of the many "tourist traps" that people looking for an Italian experience experience in Little Italy in Manhattan. I was lucky of having friends from Oporto that during a visit in the USA taken me to SOL-MAR. I filled like... More

Best part is we stayed at Newark Marriott n they (Sol Mar) offered to pick you up from your hotel and dropped you back off. Was at this restaurant with a party of 13 last week. We're all from Portugal so we enjoy the typical Portuguese cuisine. I had a rare picanha served with black beans and rice. The Bacalhau à Brás is also a good dish to try if you like codfish. And red sangria too.
