Fornos in the Ironbound

Great restaurant in an area noted for them. Good bar area and more than one room for dining. Food and service are exceptional. Parking lot fills up quickly. Generous entree portions as well as extras to snack on while waiting. White glove treatment. Never a bad meal.

You simply cannot beat the service and quality of the meal at Fornos. Don't scared by the very broad and large menu. I know the mantra about too big of a menu meaning nothing is done really well. It doesn't apply at Fornos. I have eaten there many times over my 15 years working in Newark and it has always... More

I arranged a lunch party for 32 people and I was blown away by the service and the food. When we arrived the table in the room was immaculately arranged. The sangria was great, the scalloped potatoes, chicken breast in garlic, yellow rice and penne pasta were all superb. I was so impressed! I can't wait to go back. The

We've been here a few times in the past couple years. Food is always great and so is the service. We went on a Monday night so it wasn't super crowded, but the place is packed on weekends. Reservations are only accepted for 7 or more. Highly recommend the sangria; it's homemade and amazing! Portions are large. Can be expensive... More

A great meal. Started with what was described as mussels in a spicy red sauce. The server described it as Diablo. It turned out to be 18 very large mussels in a tasty sauce much like a very good cream of tomatoe soup, but not very spicy. The rabbit was excellent. Eight meaty pieces of very tender tasty meat. Entrees... More

This place is great if you want to bring in a girl and impress her, the servers do a great job and the food is really amazing, although what I really liked the most was their great selection of wines, I Had the Campo Viejo wich was fantastic with the lamb!

Went here to celebrate a family birthday the other night. Was looking forward as Fornos is one of the long standing traditional Spanish/Portuguese restaurants in Newark's famous Ironbound and held a good reputation. After our visit, I'm questioning why that is. It was a completely underwhelming experience. The food was bland, flavorless and unremarkable. The lobster ordered was so overcook... More

This place has been around for a long time and is located in the Ironbound district of Newark. The place is enormous with parking for about 80 cars. The waiters have been there forever but the patronage has changed from strictly Italians to a wide variety of the population and it is good to see. This is a great place... More

The food is great but the drinks and the appetizers are way to expensive. I would go elsewhere for similar food at a much less cost.

We went to dinner early at 5:30pm on a Wednesday . By the time we left at 7:30, the whole restaurant was packed. The service was amazing! You sit down and you get fresh bread, butter, oil, olives and a great salad. For the appetizer we had the octopus ( pulpo) grilled in olive oil. It was fabulous. One of... More
