There are many choices for Spanish/Portuguese food in Newark. This place is a good choice. It's been here a long time. The service is friendly and the food was delicious. We had clams in green sauce which was terrific, a light delicious soup and a fresh tasting seafood casserole in a tomato sauce that was also great. With sangria and... More

The restaurant is off the beaten path, but you can tell that it is a local favorite. They have a small parking lot across the street from the restaurant. You have to be careful that you pay attention or you will drive right past it. The restaurant is small in size but has a nice home like feel to it.... More

Take the time to find this place in the Ironbound district. Small place but a great local atmosphere and super veal. Try to eat in the bar area if possible for a better feeling of old Newark. Can't say enough about the consistent food.

My husband and I love to explore restaurants and shops in the IronBound! He "discovered" this one with a friend and was excited to share his new find with me. We sat in the bar area and we were welcomed promptly. We each had a glass of house red wine. It was very good for the price but it was... More

My son and I went for an early dinner prior to attending a Red Bull soccer game. Tony has his own attended lot and this is a big deal in Newark, trust me. I made a reservation and we were warmly greeted although we hadn't been there before. We decided to split a bottle of wine and the head waiter... More

I've have eaten in many Portuguese restaurants in the US, from California to Mass. Some excellent to poor. But the only one to stay consistent is Tony's in Newark. I first dined there in 1965 as a child, the ower today was a waiter then. The food has only improved, the wine list is extensive and the menu . Location... More

The location of the restaurant is in a place where it is predominately Portuguese-American. I wanted to take my mother to a place where the reviews were excellent. At the end of my experience I will never return to this place. First the service was horrible for my family. The waiter came around only twice to see if we wanted... More

Visited on a Thursday night with friends. Atmosphere is nice and relaxing, service was attentive and appropriate never felt rushed and had a wonderful dinner. Started with garlic shrimp, baked scallops and both were great. Dinner was sea bass, for two of us and then the pork and chicken flambé all were delicious and the sea bass was done with... More

The staff was great. Table was ready for immediate seating after the event at Prudential Center. We shared 5 appetizers: fried squid, sausage, mussels, baked scallops and baked clams. All was very delicious. Our waitor was great. They kept the red sangria flowing. It was quite tasty. There were 8 of us and we tried a number of different entres.... More
