Fun evening- not the best food but certainly abundant

Well, certainly not the best meal I have had in a while, in fact, somewhat disappointing but presentation, ambiance and abundance were all in place. I ordered the softshell crabs. Did not want breaded and fried so ordered sauted in butter. I really think they did not saute- I think they boiled them... read more

I think this restaurant is missing the mark on many levels now. It used to be my favorite restaurant in the Iron Bound, but no more. The food was disappointing and almost tasteless. The garlic shrimp which is something we always order was more oily than garlicky. The lobster in the mariscada was tasteless and a weird texture. Even the... More

I love Don Pepe's and have been dining here since the late 1990's. I have also attended many a catered event (birthday parties, weddings, awards dinners, etc.). The paella is second to none, but everything on the menu is really delicious as well. Shrimp in Garlic Sauce is great as an appetizer or entree. So is the Shrimp in Wine... More

Three of us, from a local business, had a working lunch meeting. Parked right at the restaurant. We were going to simply have a bunch of the excellent appetizers: garlic shrimp, chorizo, calamari. One of the specials was Grilled Octopus, had to try it. Served w onions, whole potatos and garlic, was Fantastic! Never rushed our meeting, great service, great... More

With many, many great paella restaurants within walking distance of Newark Penn Station, you have a lot of choices. I went to two on this trip. Don Pepe's was the best. Nice, most rice, with great seafood. Very, very attentive staff. Please enjoy!

We were staying at a hotel in Newark and the clerk recommended Don Pepe's. It was a 10 minute walk from our hotel. We ordered a small dinner salad and it was huge. Our main dish was the garlic shrimp with rice. We shared the plate and still had shrimp left. Our service was good, enjoyed our dinner and prices... More

Went to a business banquet in the basement. Very tasty food, good wines, so-so beer selection, and a good band. The service was excellent and the seating comfortable. This place is built right up against an insurance company and a few blocks from Newark's penn station. I'll definitely stop in again if I am back in Newark.

We had lunch at Don Pepe, after being away from it for several years The seafood paella was average. There was lobster in it , but it was stale, off color. Yes there was a lot of food, but nothing special. I took one third of the paella home, but I haven't eaten it yet. Don Pepe will probably persist... More

Good food, decent prices and excellent service. Only a one minute drive to NJPAC after dinner. We've been many times, and never had a bad experience.

When you walk into Don Pepe's you are greeted by attentive hosts and staff. Plenty of room for a quiet drink, business lunch or graduation party. Just try to finish any of the dinners they serve. We usually have lunch and another dinner from the leftovers.
