Slow service at an airport?

I have been here on several occasions. The food is ok and the wine list somewhat extensive. What puzzles me about this place is the slow service and the staffs' nonchalant attitude. The atmosphere of the bar is quite nice for being in an airport.

Stopped here for some wine and snacks before our flight and really enjoyed it. We had the camembert plus the blue cheese nachos (which were out of this world!!!) and everything was good. It was good but its expensive so a bit of a treat for an airport stop.

Le Grand Comptoir, though not necessarily true to its French name as far as the menu and wine selection are concerned, is still the best 'fine-dining' option at Newark Airport. The choices, for both food and wine, but especially for food, are more numerous, and the prices are more affordable than their only competitor, Vino Volo. We would particularly recommend... More

Being familiar with Le Grand Comptoir at IAH, I was delighted to see another branch at EWR. This one is not as professionally run as IAH. I had to wait some time before the waiter got to me -- another server seemed to be doing nothing but watching the TV, but perhaps he wasn't on duty. When the server did... More

I choose this restaurant so I could have some decently cooked food. With just a short time before my flight I went with the porchetta and onion flat bread. It sounds good but it was running and I had to eat it with a fork and knife. It's like a pizza that you pick up and everything slides off if... More

I am glad I had hours to spend at the airport because I needed it just to have lunch. This restaurant was under staffed and the solo waiter was doing the best he could considering the circumstance. When I finally got my wine it was passable but I am not sure the wine glass was cleaned appropriately. I did like... More

A "French wine + food bar" that claims to be the highiest rated airport restaurant in the US. The waiter was attentive and tried hard to make up for the understaffing that day. It had a nice atmosphere although the TV screens over the bar were a big distraction. The food was excellent (certainly better than the standard airport fare)... More

We walked and walked looking for a good beer for my husband.... Finally I convinced him to have a glass of wine with me. Lo and behold, he found a very nice beer selection as well, totally unadvertised. If you have a little time in Newark on the way to someplace more exotic, this is a good stop! We are... More

I was so excited to see a wine bar at the airport... Yet, the service (menu nasty dirty, waiter was on his cell phone all the time, food was greasy and discusting) was terrible! Not because you have a fench name, and very high prices it means that you can cook cheap food and be so dirty and rude! Next... More

Went in for a light snack, a glass of wine and a beer between flights. As others have mentioned the only thing grand about this establishment are the prices. The service was good, but at $17 per glass for the wine I guess it should be.
