We go here for lunch regularly! The food is consistently very good. The burgers are exceptional and are wY way better than the trendy burger spots. The also have a Mediterranean chicken platter that comes with hummus, pita, and Israeli salad. This is probably my favorite dish. The matzoh ball and all the chicken soups are very good as well.... 6 people served, 6 happy people looking for real deli. Great deli food and staff. I'd go back in a minute.

We go here before Devils games. Large overstuffed sandwiches, pleasant workers and an interesting decor of Devils' memorabilia make this is agreat place!

one would not expect to find a deli of this nature in downtown newark. the food was very good, simple, reminiscent of lower east side delis that i remember from 30 years ago in NYC. the only complaint was a bit pricey considering location and atmosphere. portions are as expected - big!

When you go to Hobby's Deli, you do so for a delicious meal and, maybe, to conduct some business. The neighborhood is not very pleasing to the eye, neither is the building itself however, on any given day there are a number of judges, attorneys, the U.S. Attorney, alongside office workers, messengers and people from different profession, all enjoying a... My family and I got there 1/2 hour before the place was officially open on Saturday morning, but the owner let us in anyway. "If you don't mind us setting up around you, we can get you breakfast." That was the start of impressive customer service - it was all great! I wish we could go back to experience the... More

I have been trying to get to this deli for over 10 years. The hours of business just don't work for people who don't work downtown. So I was glad that I was finally going on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014. It was no problem that the surrounding area is old and shabby but then when you come up to the... More

The neighborhood is a bit sketchy, especially at night when I was there, but the food was good. Cost conscious patrons beware. 2 soups and 2 sandwiches were $40 before tip, but everyone was friendly. The only downside was this place is around the corner from the Prudential Center where the New Jersey Devils play and we caught it on... More

Went here the day after a Devils game, so its close by the Prudential Stadium. Had the Chicken homemade soup which was great, though the Matzo balls are large so you may want to share. For sandwiches had both the pastrami and the brisket, both were very good though the meat was less fatty vs the likes of Katz's which... More

What a great restaurant - had the Pastrami sandwich - was super yum the meat - ask for the bread to be toasted to make it even yummier. the chicken soup with the ball was AMAZING. Highly recommended. Thanks tripadvisor folks - was staying at the Newark Marriott Downtown - great choice of hotel nearby on cheap NYC stay! Price... More
