I looked at the reviews and decided to try it any ways. The mashed potato were real and the hot turkey was yummy. I had great service but I sat at the bar. Not a lot of choices at the airport but I would try it

Newark international departures is not amongst the world's great airports for passing time. This place is the most eyecatching. And it's a great idea, an American Theme Diner (especially if travelling with a teenager) - all red, white and chrome. The menu is good, the food is decent enough. But no coke or pepsi in a glass bottle (plastic bottles... More

I usually stop off at this place before flying on and it is a toss up between Rudy's and Garden State. I pass through Newark often so I know them both well. I have tried the French Dip, the Chicken burger the hamburgers, etc and they are all pretty good. The tables are as close as airplane seats so maybe... More

Connecting through Newark Liberty often, I have eaten at the Garden State Diner quite a few times with its nice diner atmosphere and a good menu with plenty of selections. Unfortunately, I have found most of the dishes are rather bland; not bad, just generic. Generally service has been prompt and business like when it comes to taking the order... More

Our waitress kept rolling her eyes and ignoring us. She kept giving an attitude and messed up our order without caring. I will never go there again because of her.

Visited Sat 10th May as we had 5 hour layover between flight from Edinburgh and flight to San Diego. Ordered classic burgers and cokes and they arrived okay and tasted fine. Our problem was no one came back to see if we wanted anything else so we didn't get the chance to order coffee and getting the check was difficult... More

Including the tip, my cheeseburger, fries and milk shake came to $21. These are midtown Manhattan prices, for sure, but that's what I expect to pay at Newark Airport. Of course, my cheeseburger came with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, portobello mushrooms, a kaiser roll, tomato slices, sliced onions, and at least 1/3 pound (150 grams) of meat done medium rare,... We had an extra hour and decided to stop into this 50's style diner in Terminal C. We were immediately seated and handed menus. The staff are aware of the need to keep it moving. We wanted a light snack and ordered a Kane International brew and the Hot Rod Nachos. In a matter of a few minutes both arrived.... More

Typically airport resaturants provide quick service as they know that their clientele do not have a lot of time before their flights board. Not the Garden State Diner. After waiting for 15 minutes we had to ask to place our order. Scrambled eggs arrived at a painfully slow pace too. So only dine here if you don't have a plane... More

I was on a layover in Newark and decided to try it (New Jersey is known for their diners anyway). I had breakfast with eggs, waffles, etc. and it was fabulous! Great authentic atmosphere, really good food and coffee. I will definitely go there again.
