Excellent food, overpriced, poor service

Food: The food is really good, well prepared and an imaginative menu. I had the duck breast that was wonderful and surprisingly reasonably priced (see below). Service: The serving staff appears to be for a different planet than the kitchen staff. Uninterested, underdressed, inattentive. Such... read more

We stayed coming here several years ago when they made the list for best burger in NJ. It is absolutely worth the trip from bergen county down to new Brunswick hands down. The restaurant itself only serves the burgers in the bar area. I would not recommend any kids as the menu is not kid friendly at all. The burger... More

My wife and I had tickets to a comedy show at the State Theater in New Brunswick. We made reservations for dinner close to show time as the theater is a few yards away. We ordered cocktails to knock off the chill from walking to the restaurant. Our drinks were expertly prepared and quickly consumed. We had reviewed the menu... More

This is my 3rd time at Stage Left. I have always thought this to be 1 of NJ's best restaurants....but I will need to reevaluate after my last visit. The wine-list is of course exemplary. Menu had Steak, Chicken, Fish & Pork. The pork-belly appetizer was excellent. But, the Chicken & Sea-bass were dry. The wagyu steak was not as... More

We visited with another couple after the NJ Symphony on a Sunday evening. It was very quiet which we liked because we wanted to talk. The wait staff was indifferent although trying to be upscale. Knocked over a wine glass and then gave us an after dinner drink which my friend and I couldn't stand. Minimalist food - quantity and... More

Horrible experience. Arrived at 5pm, had an appetizer, then waited an hour for the entree. Was told by waiter, entrees will be up in a few minutes. Ten minutes later, the manager/owner told me numerous customers showed up at once - of course they are right next door to a theater with a show that evening. Then I was told... More

My wife and I were taken to Stage Left by her brother and his wife as a late wedding gift. We were visiting from Virginia. The night out at Stage Left was unexpected. The ambiance of the place is upscale yet relaxed. We actually had our meal outside, where any attire is permitted. Neither my wife nor I had packed... More

Stage Left, by now, has become for us the first dinner on our way from Eastman Québec to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We go down taking our time in three days. We go back in two. We stay at the nearby Hyatt, reasonably priced, and within walking distance from Stage Left, so named, because it is next to... More
