Garlic, garlic and more garlic

Been here many times. Garlic, garlic, garlic. You do need to ask, but they will bring you a bulb of roasted garlic with your loaf of bread, as well as a pesto dipping oil. This is the main reason we come here. It is just so good. It is a BYOB place. It is a small, quaint bistro. Have not... read more

I was taken here for a surprise celebratory dinner and was completely impressed. I was shocked at how small it was, but was an early Thursday evening and not too crowded. Service was ok. Bread/dip was great, stuffed mushroom appetizer and then I had the beef medallions and my bf had the rack of lamb. Delicious! Especially the scalloped potatoes... More

Excellent restaurant; go with someone you love who's not afraid of garlic! Delicious food; huge portions; doggie bag for sure! Good prices. Nice town. Enjoy! You won't be disappointed.

That's what they say, funny! Very pleasant, homey, relaxed restaurant. Menu is Italian schemed, not very unusual. But plates are well priced and lots of food. People go here before plays at the Shakespeare Theatre, you get a small discount with tickets. Many dishes w garlic, of course, but not all. Madison is a charming downtown to walk around before... Sadly, this is one of the most regrettable dinner decisions I've ever made. Went in September, and first wondered how a place this cheap-looking (fake exposed brick wall decals, cheap novelty pictures I've seen everywhere else) could get such good reviews. The seats were also cheap and uncomfortable, the ceiling ugly, and the place was carpeted. The bread and famed... More

The food here is very good - gets a bit crowded though. Consider making a reservation! The BYOB policy is a great way to order a little something extra from the menu.

Have had excellent meals here...most recently in May 2014. Love that it is BYOB and our favorite is the dessert Amaretto Cake.

Even if you don't like garlic, you should love the meals at the Garlic Rose. I've been there numerous times and have never been disappointed. The pesto sauce for the bread was delicious. Nice size and delicious salad with the meal. I had the chicken and shrimp jubilee with their famous potatoes and broccoli--a great meal!! My friends enjoyed their... More

I've passed Garlic Rose on Main St. many times in Madison but it seemed like one of those hole-in-the-wall restaurants. One time I was going out to eat with my family and we finally decided to try it. We were pleasantly surprised! The food is really good. You do really have to like garlic, but umm, you kind of should... More
