Very Good Shanghai Food Main Dishes - Mediocre Appetizers

My wife, two children and I attended a baptism party for our nephew's son in November 2015 at this restaurant. There were perhaps 80 people at the party seated at tables of about 10 people each. The meal got off to a slow start in the sense that the appetizers were mediocre. This consisted of... read more

This is one restaurant that was a blemish on Newport area in Jersey City. I visited this place about four times and the experience deteriorated each time. The staff doesnt converse in english and thats a pain especially when you dont understand chinese. The staff doesnt look trained at all and there were times when food and drinks were spilled... I was hoping for more when co-workers talked it up. I ordered General Tso (hard to go wrong with that) and broccoli & garlic. Good thing I didn't have to talk to a lot of people after lunch. I was overall pretty disappointed and didn't finish anything.

Even though the reviews on Trip Advisor were pretty average, thinking American's taste on Chinese food might be different from Asian, we went any way. We were glad we did. The Chinese food here is very authentic and well prepared. The price is reasonable in this hotel area. We really enjoyed our dinner.

We really enjoy eating here, it is a higher end chinese restaurant, centrally located in Newport near both the PATH & Light Rail stations. Decor is pretty, staff is prompt & courteous, food is delicious (especially the scallion pancake - yummm!). Large & varied menu, seating for 1 person to large groups & even an elevated area where you can... More

We stayed in Newport at the Aquablu building in Jersey City, NJ and luckily I found the menu for Confucius under another apartment door. My family had gone out for the day into Manhattan and I chose to stay back and relax so having this restaurant deliver good, hot food was a welcome treat. The food was good and the... More

I arrived in Jersey City at around 9:30pm and was hungry. I was at the Courtyard Hotel and asked for a recommendation for Asian food and was directed to Confucius, which is half a block away from the hotel. This location is also convenient to the Newport PATH train station and the Pavonia/Newport light rail station. Confucius offers both dine... More

Used to be a regular before leaving the area. Had experienced lunches and dinners on numerous occasions. In our opinion, still good. Asked for our favorites dishes and did not have any issues with the results. Truly enjoyed our evening dinner.

location: convenient. very much near the Newport mall and the waterfront. service: nothing to complain or compliment about. courteous, etc. can be more helpful with the menu. food: can be a little tough to choose the right dishes for someone like me who avoids certain meats. I don't blame the restaurant for it. however, helps if the staff can tell... More

What happened? This used to be one of our favorite places to eat in Jersey City, but it went downhill really fast. After ordering our favorite dishes a few times in a row with inconsistent results, we asked them what was going on. The tofu & vegetables had almost no tofu, the sauce was oily and separated / chunky. We... More
