Hoboken's Gem

I have not been there for at least 3 years; my bad. The place is great for tasting exotic food in a warm and nice atmosphere. First the bad: yes it is a little crowded. My table for two was too close to the next table, we could follow all their conversation. Yes it is loud, so if you are... read more

Where do you find the best South American food in New York City? Answer- In New Jersey. Off we went, across the river, to charming Hoboken to have dinner at Cucharamama, owned by James Beard award-winning chef and culinary author Maricel Presilla. Not only is the ambiance cozy, the décor perfect and the service fit for royalty, but it is... More

Outstanding culinary treat for those who appreciate a fine pan-Latin American dining experience. Appreciate the colorful paintings and wood burning oven while sipping a cocktail. At times a bit noisy. Make sure you make a reservation in advance.

The restaurant offers an excellently prepared wide assortment of Latin American offerings. We had the Ecuadorian-style creamy corn, plantain, and shrimp soup with plantain empanadas and the short ribs. It was excellent. The service was good but the wait staff struggle to provide service given the cramped table arrangement. The biggest draw back was the noise level. We had to... More

I really enjoyed the food and wonderful space. It is nicely decorated, the service, the food and the drinks were all great! I would definitely go back to try some of the other dishes displayed on the menu! My food was so tasty.

This place has great food, but bad service. I love the South American food, but each time we go, the service is bad.

A colleague of mine and I went there for dinner craving for something different from ordinary American food. We ordered tapas to start with - a kind of stuffed pumpkin, octopus, and eggplant. All were delicious. Moving on to maincourse, he ordered roasted chicken, which is okay. I ordered skirt steak Argentinian style, which was tasty and juicy. Worth visiting... More

With so many choices in Hoboken, this restaurant should not be overlooked. Love everything I order here and their octopus appetizer is the best octopus you will eat in your life. I'm lucky to have stopped in again and enjoyed it recently.

I started to come to Cucharamama when it opened way back when in 1999(?). I give it three tries and stopped coming. It was terrible. I went back three years ago and it seemed the restaurant was coming around, service improved, the food improved and the experience was enough to get me to return. The restaurant can still be hit... Our fist visit was nearly perfect in every way. We were seated immediately for our 9pm reservation. The restaurant was lively with a welcoming atmosphere. Our waiter made some great suggestions for appetizers with spinach, bacon-onion sofrito, manchego empanadas and carparinas, followed by the Argentinian flank steak and Columbian style potatoes and a reasonably priced bottle of red wine. I... More
