Surprised

Never heard of Max's but I'm so glad I was introduced to this little gem. Great Happy Hour food and drink specials. $5 vodka drinks, wine, and food. Went with friends and we shared perfectly cooked fried calamari, two types of mussels, Caprese flat bread, and warm crab dip. We sat at the beautiful... read more

We have eaten here with kids, family and friends alike - never a bad seating. Great parking in the lot across the street. Great seafood as well - must try the grilled octopus, even if you have never had it you may become a convert! Oyster selection is limited to 3 varieties but they were chilled well and quickly.

I've been to Max's several times. This past time for lunch I ordered a simple salad with salmon. The salad was great and the salmon cooked to perfection. HOWEVER, as good as the soup, mussels, oysters and food was, I walked away with a bad taste in my mouth because although the service was good, it took FOREVER to get... More

Friendly place with comfortable atmosphere. Easy parking on brightly lit street or parking lot. Easy to talk on a weekday night. Excellent octopus appetizer with big chunks of meat nicely cooked. Two fish dishes were just right. Several good beers on tap and nice cocktail and wine list. Small enough for waitstaff to be readily available when needed. Music at... More

We went back to Max's today after a superb meal last weekend and had the same result. Absolutely fantastic fresh seafood and Jersey Fresh sides in a beautifully restored building dating from the late 1800's. The waiter gave us time to relax between courses and was very attentive. One of our party commented that we received the same food and... More

My wife and I on a cloudy 4th of July had a great "Linner" dinning experience between lunch and dinner. We were the only ones at the bar because it was early. Jack at the bar was amazing. Oysters, mussels, chicken parm and homemade bread pudding and apple tart. We felt guilty because we had such a great time without... More

Stopped for dinner on a recent Sunday. The food itself was good, quite good in some circumstances, but the meal took entirely too long with long gaps between seeing a waiter to even get additional drinks. The food was good enough that I will go back and try again, hopefully with better service. I will say, the place is very... More

We were looking for a new place to eat on our way home from a long and exhausting day in PA. On a whim, my husband entered Glouscester County in a restaurant search engine and suddenly remembered that 35 years ago, while working in Gloucester City, he would have lunch in a "hole in the wall place" under the Walt... This was an unexpected gem. Tucked neatly in a residential neighborhood under the Walt Whitman Bridge minutes from the airport and adjacent to the river, this little place packs a lot of high quality Louisiana cuisine in an unassuming location. The fried oysters were huge and succulent. The seafood jambalaya was rich and full of shrimp, crawfish, chicken, okra, and... More
