A Real Turkish Delight

Our dinner experience is very good. The place is low key and friendly. There are street parking even on Friday evening, which is a real treat for those of us traveling from Manhattan and Westchester. All appetizers are great and we like Calf Liver a lot, and the Zucchini Pancake is a must try. We... read more

Very impressed. Wow. Excellent food, excellent value. An extensive menu. The service was good, polite, attentive but not overbearing. I ordered Lentil Soup and a chicken, yogurt dish - excellent. I can't wait to go back and explore other items on the menu and I'm looking forward to introducing a few friends to Hunkar. I really like seeing so many... More

The proof that the food is authentically Turkish is the fact that Turkish families from all over the area eat here. The soups are marvelous, as are the cold appetizers. My main course was the stuffed cabbage, which was among the best I've ever had. I skipped dessert, as I find them too sweet. Alcohol is not served, but you... More

Parking is tough in this area, but the many Turkish patrons prove how authentic the food is. I've been lucky enough to visit Istanbul ten times over the years, and the food here is just excellent. Great service, very knowledgeable about what is good and not on the menu. Try to get a seat in the new enclosed porch in... More

Love the menu options and the food is great. Had an awesome soup the other day that I'm still daydreaming about! We sat in a new enclosed porch in the back - its surrounded by trees, full of windows, I felt like we were in a treehouse! Service is spotty - most often, the server has to be flagged down... More

I have eaten here at least 12 times in the past two years, and have never been disappointed. There's a reason you see Turkish families traveling from a 15-mile radius to diner here, despite the lack of parking. Also, I've brought friends and colleagues here from all parts of the country--California, Washington DC, etc. -- and all have said it's... More

As an appetizer I chose the zuchhini pancakes. While the sauce was tasty, the pancakes were undercooked, still very soggy and pasty in the middle. As an entree I got Hunkar Begendi with lamb, a classical Istanbul dish with lamb chunks cooked in tomato sauce, served on eggplant puree blended with cheese. The lamb and sauce were excellent, but the... More

Really enjoyed this place. We had a bunch of appetizers – hummus, caviar spread, eggplant chunks – all of which were good. My wife tried the Bronzino special which was a whole fish, with head and bones and all. It was very juicy, very simple. I liked it more than my Iskender (they were out of the lamb shank, my... More

We are regulars at this restaurant. The food is very good and reasonably priced. The atmosphere is relaxing with Turkish music to add to the mood. The service is excellent. I would highly recommend the salmon.
