Go for Happy Hour, Skip the Overpriced Menu

We visit Axelsson's every year for Happy Hour. The half price selections are terrific. The raw oysters are so fresh you can still taste the ocean in them. Other items are available like clams and shrimp, and there are more options like fish tacos, etc. Wine and drink prices are reduced as well. The... read more

Based on all of the reviews, we thought this was worth the try. The sign in the parking lot of plenty of parking was the first tell when there were also plenty of empty spots. The restaurant itself is beautiful. After that our experience was not good. It was like being in a library - no music - lots of... More

We have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. They have the best crab cakes in New Jersey. I always start with oysters on the half shell. The breads served with the meal are wonderful. The atmosphere and the service are as good as the food. Even though it is a bit off the beaten path, this... More

Went to Axelsson's for their Raw Bar specials, which is 5:00 to 6:30.......We sat in the pub area which was very nice, lots of wood and classy seashore decor.....The barmaid Shannon was excellent, very friendly and attentive......The oysters are the draw here, half price during this time frame.......excellent, served a few different ways and very cold...We had fish tacos and... If you like oysters you'll have to try The Blue Claw. Their HH is from 5-6:30 in the pub bar and dining area. We arrived at 5:10 with 6 of us in including kids 2 & 4. We had the last table off the bar area. Just a beautiful, nautical dining area. But the oysters...Prussian Pearls, Plain at $12 a... More

We have been vacationing in Wildwood Crest/Cape May for many years. We went to Axxelson's about 10 years ago and decided to go again this past July. My soup and entree were both fine, but my husbands and sister's were not that good. The waitress, who was very nice along with the host offered her another entree, but she declined. The... More

We've been coming, irregularly, for 20 years, and when the place makes improvements (finishing the porch was a great addition), it remembers how to wow you. Unfortunately, little does change around here, and that's good and bad. Very good food (crab Dewey, yum!) and raw bar items, but the menu hasnt changed much in 20 years, so we don't return... More

Sorry to say that Axelson's has gone down hill. The menu is about half the size and they used to include a salad but no more. The food was good but the service and management were sub par. We waited 60 minutes between apps and entrees. 40 minutes in and none of the staff said anything until I caught the... More
