best lunch spot in Portsmouth

This is my favorite lunch spot in Portsmouth. I've eaten a lot of clam chowder over the past week, and Popovers is still my favorite. They also served one of the best BLTs I've ever had. Stopped in this afternoon for a quick bite. The luncheon salads and sandwiches looked delicious and the pastries out of this world, but we went for the "breakfast all day menu." The Panini bread and popovers themselves were excellent; however, the eggs are made in a microwave and left a lot to be desired. The staff was delightful and the... More

There is a cafe or carry out. We just had popovers. My GF popover was hot out of the oven and delicious. I would have rated them a 5 if my husband's regular popover had been warm.

Ate at outside tables to enjoy the salty night air and people watch. Even the mac & cheese came with a mini popover. Great coffee products, but then came desert. their Portsmouth Orange Cake will cause me to drive back up to Portsmouth often. If they only had orange sherbet to accompany I'd give this cake my "Best Desert Anywhere... More

When we go to Portsmouth we always eat at Popovers once or twice. The food and pastries are excellent, and you can sit outside with a drink and watch what is going on in the city, I met the pastry chef on the last visit, she was great as the pastries

Driving up the coast on our way to Maine, and stopped In the charming town of Portsmouth. Ordered popovers and French Apple crumb pastry. The pastry was delicious, but the popovers were even better. Paired with the maple butter, they just melted in our mouths. Thinking about making a stop on the way home. Every single pastry looked to due... More

Breakfast sandwiches are good. Mimosas are horrible. All OJ with a splash (like teaspoon) of champagne. So basically $12 for a glass of OJ. Service is always iffy. You never quite know the attitude you will receive. Will the person behind the register be nice today? Crabby? Tired? Unpredictable.

Popovers is the place to go from breakfast through dessert in the evening. This is basicaaly a bistro-type place in the heart of Market Square. Sandwiches and pastries are the main fare with a variety of coffees and teas. Open year round, the best time is the spring-fall when you can sit outside and watch the world go by. Well-behaved...
