I'm a cyclist and love to stop in a coffee shop at the tail end of my rides; Breaking New Grounds has been my go-to in Portsmouth until today. The coffee has never been great, and the staff act is if you're an inconvenience, but the atmosphere is bike friendly and coffee passable, but today it hit an all time... More

A good place to stop in, while you're walking around town, warm up, grab a hot drink and a pastry and if you can find a seat, do some people watching.

Delicious coffee and scrumptious baked goods make for the perfect "pick me up" stop while shopping in Portsmouth. In nice weather, sit outside but as the chill sets in, tables inside are perfect and the smell of freshly ground coffee is serendipity.

One of those places where, if you have previously been a customer, you will be comfortable. The inside area is clumsy. Lots of great goodies upon which you can chew are displayed. I was a companion on this visit, my Wife and Daughter had coffee and a bakery treat, we grabbed a small table and pulled over chairs so that... More

The place is... eh, OK. Food nothing special but not bad - you can get the same muffins for half the price at Hannaford. Benefits greatly from its location, and I like the fact that they compost. They don't brew coffee until the previous carafe runs out - which can be all day for some of the flavored ones. So... More

I go here almost every morning, the coffee is probably one of the best I have had. Their food (muffins, coffee cake, ect.) is about average. The employees are kind but mistakes with drinks do happen and they aren't too apologetic, at Starbucks when your drink is made wrong they give a card for a free coffee, no such luck... More

How many times have we been here? Every time we stay in Portsmouth which is once a month. Thank goodness Portsmouth is a walking city so we can justify eating their desserts and burn off the calories. Friendly staff and outstanding place for people watching.

Visited on a very warm September afternoon and after walking thru Prescott Park decided to have a Iced cappuccino here. It was very good, excellent espresso, good and strong and I ordered a decaf. The bakery products looked great, but didn't partake. The wait staff/baristas are quick and friendly. Plenty of tables inside and out.
