Nice shop, open later than most, great coffee

Large space with good coffee, although not necessarily friendly service. Had a cappucino and a blueberry muffin on a morning when I had a meeting to attend near town. You may not want to go here if you're in a hurry, as it took them about 10 mins or so to make a cappucino. However, if you've got... read more

If you wish to be in the very center of the hubub that is Portsmouth in summer, there is no better place than this. See and be seen. Used to be my favorite place. This morning, I went in and asked for a pot of tea, the tea to be put in the pot - without the filter, and the... More

On a warm, sunny day, there is no better place in Portsmouth to sit outside right in Market Square, relax with a hot cup of coffee, and just hang out. People-watching at its best is what you will find here. BNG is hugely popular with tourists and locals, and you'll find the outdoor seating area to be very dog friendly.... More

Love this place! The coffee is superb and the cakes, sweets and treats are delectable. I recommend trying the chocolate torte. The staff is hard working and busy as the place is always packed. It's a relaxing place despite all the people, and it's a mixed crowd of all types. Being that it's in Market Square, the location is simply... More

This place is always busy. Its on a corner, a great place to grab coffee and a bagel or pastry and people watch. Lattes are good too. Nice vibe. Reasonable prices.

When in Portsmouth, skip the inevitable starbucks but head straight for the bedt coffee store in town. Leave the chocolate cakes ad these are all too sweet, a cookie maybe. But the coffee taste as it should be.

This is one of the oldest coffee shops in Portsmouth, used to be the Brioche...Breaking New Grounds is a Portsmouth institution, they serve excellent coffees and teas, tattooed baristas, some make better lattes and cappucinos than others...unbeatable people watching on Market Square. Their food choices are a bit boring, they have some nice specialty cakes, but could expand their breakfast... More

I'm a cyclist and love to stop in a coffee shop at the tail end of my rides; Breaking New Grounds has been my go-to in Portsmouth until today. The coffee has never been great, and the staff act is if you're an inconvenience, but the atmosphere is bike friendly and coffee passable, but today it hit an all time... More

A good place to stop in, while you're walking around town, warm up, grab a hot drink and a pastry and if you can find a seat, do some people watching.

Delicious coffee and scrumptious baked goods make for the perfect "pick me up" stop while shopping in Portsmouth. In nice weather, sit outside but as the chill sets in, tables inside are perfect and the smell of freshly ground coffee is serendipity.
