I ordered the daily special, flounder was mushy, overcooked. My husbands chicken was better. Overpriced for food. Great place for good wine and a local cheese plate. Have entree elsewhere.

We were attracted by the Black Trumpet's location in an old ships chandlery across from the tugboats. While it's on a narrow waterfront alley, it is near the center of this great walking town and close to the public garage. We ended up being very impressed by its menu. The menu is very focused on local ingredients and changes with... More

Came with high hopes. After all it is expensive and has a good reputation. Sad to say the food was mediocre and unimaginative. About as good at any mid-priced hotel. The wine was expensive and served too cold. My glass and fork were both dirty, and that waiter was an exceptionally unhappy and humorless boy with a huge chip on... More

We'd eaten at the Trumpet several times and it's been good to great BUT it's now looking like a victim of its own success, too pricey for the quality. The wait service was just OK (why does one have to ask for an additional cup of coffee? We finally gave up on asking for two). Better training and slightly more... More

There are more restaurants in Portsmouth than meals to be consumed. Many are good. The Black Trumpet was great. We ate there twice in the nine nights we visited and were highly impressed each time. The meals were cooked to perfection, the wait staff highly professional and the restaurant ambiance serene. The first night I ordered a lamb shank that... More

First of all our server was great! He was very enthusiastic and our requests weren't a burden at all. My mom has a lot of food allergies and they were very good about accommodating. They made her a different version of a drink she wanted and made sure she would be able to eat her food. Overall great food, atmosphere... More

We loved this place.....great atmosphere, superior service, and food that was off-the-chain delicious. Imaginative presentation and super fresh ingredients. This was a really wonderful night out for us!

We loved this restaurant when it was the Blue Strawberry, but I think I like it even better now. The menu is limited, but what they do they do very well. The service is top notch. This place is always on our fine dining list when we visit Portsmouth.

We had a post-graduation dinner for my daughter's Pinning ceremony here. The food is very innovative, marrying flavors you wouldn't think of going together. The food is delicious, but expensive and in small portions ala fine cuisine. I had a Berber Burger which was angus beef with lamb. Very tasty, but at $19.00, I dunno. We had some goat cheese... More
