Black Trumpet a Star Treasure in Portsmouth's Crown

Had another last-minute-decision dinner here the other night.Evan continues to explore the world of unknown-but-delicious foods. Thursday our subsequent discoveries were a common weed that, when pureed, tastes like sunchoke, and a King Whiting fish- white, flavorful and with lovely soft flesh. We... read more

Our latest dinner at Black Trumpet was to celebrate our anniversary. We usually order seafood and vegetables rather than meat, and the menu heres offers many choices in both categories, with the emphasis on seasonal and local. I like to try several different flavors, and the three categories--small, medium, and main--make this possible. Sometimes there are so many tempting small... More

I had read somewhere recently that Portsmouth had a few great restaurants worth traveling for, and when given the opportunity to be in Portsmouth for an evening, I decided we'd try this top spot. The menu was difficult to narrow down because there were so many wonderful options. We decided to go with a small plate, two medium plates and... More

always a favorite of ours. the upstairs takes no reservations, but you sit in a cozy room in a building from the 18th century - you look out on the portsmouth harbor - and you think this is the best. then the food comes, and the creativity of the chef is amazing. great wine list with excellent affordable wines. There is no logic to my having a visceral reaction to two pet salons in one city block in a sleepy coastal town in the Pacific Northwest. People are entitled to take Spot to a pet salon and clever entrepreneurs are entitled to cater to that phenomenon. Nor is there logic to my disappointment that the logo for the Black... More

Friendly service? Could have been MUCH better. Same goes for the food. Perhaps my expectations based on what I had heard were too high but this place was more like a tourist spot to me. The location is very convenient to many Portsmouth attractions and while there is no on site parking there is a parking garage about 2blocks away... More

Hi on our way up Maine, We decided to explore Portsmouth WOW what a great little (city) so cute so many restaurants. There was nothing "bad" about our dinner for two here but nothing really stood out about the place either. The best bite was the mushroom with pistachio pesto appetizer. We also got the crab dip which was good but ive honestly had just as good if not better from a number of pub/bar type places for much less money. My... More

Quaint restaurant with refined but bold favors. Delicious pate for appetizer and beyond gourmet burger made for a memorable dinner in Portsmouth. Don't miss it.

Great attention to detail at this lovely and charming restaurant. The chef is both creative and so skilled in the wonderful blend of flavors. The staff couldn't be friendlier as well as knowledgeable about the fair being served. Overall a wonderful experience.
