We had dinner here. Reservations are highly recommended. Loved the choices on the menu from small dishes to medium dishes to entrees. Good service and friendly staff.

We've been going to Black Trumpet over the years and have had fairly good success with our meals. Not so on this last occasion. This was total disappointment. It was as if the chef was not even in the kitchen and some random person was selected off the street to prepare dinner. For the first time ever, in any restaurant,... More

Last Friday , May 1st 2015, My girlfriend and I had dinner at the Bistro. We have done so a few times now. It is one of our favorites in Portsmouth. The food is usually delicious :-) That evening we ordered the vegetarian paella and it was mediocre at best. We had to wait an exceptionally long time to receive... More

We ate in the upstairs wine bar. Cool atmosphere, great view. The food was interesting and tasty, and the service was good. I recommend!

In the past 25 years there have been 3 restaurants in this location and each has been exceptional. We no longer live in the area so this was our first visit to the Black Trumpet and had not just a wonderful meal but great entertainment in the way eating out is supposed to be. We could write volumes about the... More

We visited last night which was a very quiet night in Portsmouth. We ate upstairs and had the window table with a great view. Attentive service and very well paced. The food was excellent. Loved the carrot soup and the skate and scallops. Not too much choice on wines by the glass with no full bodied red offered. Only complaint... More

The Black Trumpet Bistro (formerly Lindberg's Crossing) is an interesting little place just off one of downtown Portsmouth's busier intersections, tucked away on a service way down by the waterfront. It has two levels and the bottom floor entrance is an unassuming wooden door with a small sign that opens into the main dining room which feels like one. The... More

The restaurant is very cosy, you feel right at home. Friendly staff. We took a medium meal for starters and wanted our son to have a medium meal for main- we (european) assumed that these would be big enough- given our experience of eating out in the US. But this time we were wrong. All dishes were tasteful and well... More

Black Trumpet Bistro lives in a 19th century house with a 21st century menu that chef Evan Mallet changes a lot. We're overlooking the Piscataqua River from upstairs. Jim's starter is sesame duck breast with mushroom, arugula and cherry salad. Have it. R picks foie gras stuffed summer squash with poached peach and micro greens. Have it. Today's fish: cod... More
