Best meat in town

Great building with explanations on the construction and history (russo japanese war for instance). Meat perfectly cooked, desserts well presentedf live, no card. A bit pricey, but the meat us worth it.

We visited The Library for dinner during a post-birthday getaway weekend in the Portsmouth area. We had 6:00 PM reservations on a Saturday night. We arrived a few minutes early, and were seated right away. This is a very charming and quaint restaurant, and as a book lover I found the decor and bookcases full of old books quite lovely.... one of Portsmouth's great experiences. reasonably priced and as good as the larger expensive steak chains. Try the sides they are also amazing. The gentlemen's cut is a truly exceptional cut. great wine list. great staff. parking usually available on the street within one block.

We do not get out to eat much. Went to the Library Restaurant as we were given a gift certificate for Christmas. The weather was horrific outside, so we were a little early. We were seated right away and our server was great....The food was par, prices a little high. Our table was nice, we could see the snow falling... More

To me the atmosphere was awe inspiring. Being in an old library surrounded by books and enjoying a wonderful meal was pure joy! From appetizers to dessert, we loved it all!

The restaurant has wonderful wood work, light fixtures and stained glass windows with many books on shelves. The service was very good. My husband and I both ordered the lobster pie-Lobster, vegetables and puff pastry- we did not expect peas (a lot of peas) and cubed carrots with lobster- I should have asked but it is a combination I would... The night started off great as a group of us were given a nice table in a private room near the bar. We were celebrating and were given license to do so by our very patient server (Matt) and by the other party in the room with us. The server was very accommodating and did his best despite the painfully... More

If you like meat, lots of it, an atmospheric darkly paneled dining room with two fireplaces, walls lined with shelves of old books, then the Library restaurant at the Rockingham is for you. The bar is pleasant and cozy and serves good cocktails. This is the place to enjoy steak with different sides and sauces, prices are high and there... More
