After experiencing this restaurant for the first time in April 2014, my wife and I have gone back 5 times. There is no better food than what you are served at The Library. The sides are huge and the steaks are delicious. You gotta check this place out.

Went there for dinner and the place was great. It is situated in an old Library and you get to have dinner amongst the books! Very pleased with the food a service.

Really lovely place in Portsmouth. I mean, how often do you have the chance to eat in an old library? The steak is great, tasty and not too expensive. Plus, they have Harpoon IPA on tap? I mean - what more do you need? Found them on opentable.

Love this place. We went for brunch last weekend. My wife and I started with two cups of chowder. They were practically the size of a bowl. They have been very well know for their great clam chowder for decades. It is still as good as ever. My wife ordered the appetizer of beef carpaccio for her entree. She really... More

We went here on a Friday night at 6 pm. There was literally no one there. The hostess told us to seat ourselves. We did so and she came over with the specials. My father, who was in a friendly mood, asked her "oh are they very special?" She responded: "they could be." She did not smile or laugh and... More

A group of 12 made an evening of it! Great place to visit... We could actually hear each other. Rainy night in Portsmouth did not ruin a great night of food and fellowship. We had plenty of time on our hands. Our server was courteous and friendly. The seafood tower was excellent. Great wedge salad and 8oz filet cooked a... More

For our 48th wedding anniversary, we spent the day in Portsmouth and dined at The Library. What drew us was the Kobe beef (aka Wagyu beef), which I'd only heard about but never tasted. The 12 oz sirloin was expensive ($60) but a special occasion treat I'm unlikely to find elsewhere in NH. For ambiance (dark paneling, lots of books,... More

We have been to The Library Restaurant several times and never miss dining there when visiting Portsmouth. It is simply one of the top places to eat in Portsmouth. The steaks are the best anywhere. My group had filet mignon, lamb, and the porterhouse on our most recent visit. The food is always prepared perfectly. The side dishes are also... More

Was I just robbed? That is a question that should never enter your mind as you walk out of a restaurant. I hate reading long reviews so let me sum this up for you: Spoiled New England clam chowder. How is this possible? How can a restaurant, in Portsmouth NH, known for seafood, have spoiled clam chowder? When mentioned to... More

What an outstanding restaurant! From A-Z, this establishment has every marker in the correct position. My companion and I shared two different steaks, mushrooms and a side dish of spinach. There was enough left over to take a hefty take home package. Excellent wait staff! Nice Ambiance!
