The Library Restaurant is in an famous Portsmouth Ex-Hotel. The Hotel is now made into condos and has Lion Statues out frount. When you go into the Restaurant part it is elegant and even though it is an old building, really doesn't look like. The servers are old school and very polite. After ordering your meal you may read any of... More

The bartender was great the service at the table was adequate but the food was well below standard. The price $250.00. The turkey was dry the cranberry sauce tasted and smelled like... More

Terrible service, nasty hostess place was almost empty and she sits us next to a party of 6 people that had obviously been there to long drinking then acted offended when we asked to move. Had to wait for waitress, had to ask for a glass for a bottled beer. She waited on the table on the fly this in a... More

Arrived for lunch on a rainy cold November day. the fireplace in the bar drew us in there first. It is a charming little cozy bar with friendly staff. Dined in the beautiful dining room which makes you feel as if you are in a library. My husband had a french dip sandwich and I had a salad. Both were... More

Went for dinner. Friendly staff greeted us immediately. Great waitress...knew her menu. Got the chili to start. Sweet, luscious, and meaty. Cobb salad was large and filling. Very fresh vegetables. Grilled cheese made with cheddar and American on wonderful thick toast grilled perfectly. Cheese warm and runny. Retro 50's diner homey and welcoming.

The library is not an everyday restaurant but excellent for special occasions. My husband and I have been twice - first for my birthday when it was just the two of us and then again with our parents when the met for the first time after our engagement. On both occasions the restaurant was fairly empty which is usually alarming... More

Tonight my wife and another couple tried The Library during Portsmouth, NH restaurant week. Words cannot fully convey how bad a dining experience this was, starting with cocktails and ending with dessert. The evening began on a bad note when we were seated 45 minutes late for a 6:30 reservation. My wife's Cosmo was not very good and our friends... More

Went here for Restaurant Week to try a different place. Expected during Restaurant Week for the place to impress us to come back again when it isn't Restaurant Week. Started off wrong. Went to the lounge since we were early for a 6:30 reservation. Got the check with the drink, and glanced at it before handing a credit card. When... More

The "Library" is a beautiful restaurant located in an historic renovated building. Numerous luminaries have dined here. You should. Food could not be better, service was right and the atmosphere was beautiful. The "Library " is expensive; two for dinner with drinks and tip was $175.00 but a meal here is truly fine dining. This is a special restaurant, great... More
