This was my first visit to the Library for dinner with some friends. We first took some time to review the large selection of martinis and wine offerings – so many choices. We tried The Library during restaurant week in Portsmouth, so we ordered from their special menu. The table started with Tomato Bruschetta and salads, all tasty. The entrees... More

Charming place. Extensive Martini menu. Great rack of lamb. Fair prices and good service. We've been there several times and have never had a bad meal. Suggest reservations.

Discovered by chance in a business trip, will be for sure a fixed stop in future. Very nice, very friendly, it seems they just were waiting for you. Great foods are served In an old charming library, all woods and leather in an old building of red briks of Portsmouth downtown. Steaks and Seafood in the best American way. Very... More

I've eaten here twice before on business trips and was anxious to treat my wife to a great dining experience! She loved it! Yay!!!!! We shared the wedge salad, along with a steak, asparagus, potatoes au gratin and three oysters! In order of favorite; the steak, the potatoes, the wedge salad, the drinks, oysters and asparagus. When we come back,... More

We've spent quite a few getaways here and never made it to The Library until today. Kim and Hailey were amazing! So friendly and open. My husband and I sat at the bar had a few drinks and appetizers which were wonderful. I'm very picky about my Cosmos and Kim made me a delicious Cosmo! So much so that my... More

Went here for dinner since it was my wife's birthday and we were looking for something a little special. Atmosphere was nice but food was, i have to say average. I'm not a fussy eater by any means but when i'm paying $28-$30+ for an a la carte meal i expect a little better. I had the lobster pie which... More

My husband and I spent time in NH looking for a vacation home - we went from the seacoast to the mountains. Our evening with friends at The Library was a very enjoyable part of our trip! From the beautiful building to the perfectly prepared steaks, a total thumbs up! Our waitress was helpful and polite - you can't ask... More

My wife, daughter and I were in town for my older daughters graduation from UNH. We stayed at the Port Inn which was great. We asked the desk clerk about some restuarants in the area that we would like to go to then I asked him how's the parking for truck as big as mine that's when he gave me... More

Unbelievable! Wow, what a night! Went in with a group of friends and sat at the bar on Friday night. We ordered drinks and appetizers which were not inexpensive. The owner, Bruce, was sitting in his usual seat at the end of the bar demeaning the bartender and ordering him to open a couple of bottles of "his wine" that... More

WORST Experience Ever- We had never been to the Library before and were excited to go. We sat at the bar with a few friends and noticed the owner at the corner of the bar eating and drinking wine. While we sat there the owner spoke VERY belittling to the bartender while he made him serve "HIS" wine to him.... More
