Prior to our travel, I picked the Oar House restaurant out of the listing on yellow pages.com. To our great surprise our meal was probably the best we've ever had in all of our travels. The lobster bisque was devine and the sherry cream sauce gave our meal an explosion of flavor. We highly recommend the Oar House.

We had a lovely meal and were pleasantly surprised that the food was so good...BUT...we got bad vibes after sitting down and the waiter didn't even greet us. Hello!...we're customers.. Aren't you glad to see us? We sought him out to request something but he wandered around the sparsely filled restaurant with his eyes down. . The bread was dropped... More

We recently had dinner at 'the Deck' of the Oar House, located just across the (dead-end) street from the main restaurant. On-site limited but free parking is a definite plus in Portsmouth. The outside deck has typical patio furniture with plastic chairs, Formica topped tables and a retractable canvas awning offering shelter from the sun. Our waiter was very attentive... More

We went early on a quiet Friday night. The service was extraordinary to match the food. Crab cakes and calamari for appetizers followed by the Oar House Special and a Saffron Bouillabaisse. Well worth the time to seek out this little gem.

Let me start off by saying I have dined here mant times before, and my meals have always been good. My husband & I even took his clients here in the summer. and everyone had a great meal (thank goodness). We went out to dinner last weekend with another couple. We all ordered salads which were very good. I ordered... More

Best eggs benedict I've ever had. The fresh fruit and roasted potatoes served with it were great, too. My husband had a linguica sausage pizza, which was also delectable. I was a little put off by the not-casual-enough atmosphere at first, but once my plate was set down, I was happy. Prices are higher than I usually go for, but... More

I decided to try out the new Oar House Dock this past weekend and was surprised with the cafeteria quality food. While the service was friendly, the food served on paper plates was awful. I tried the mussels and pizza. The mussels were tiny, gritty and tasteless. They came with a soaking broth and butter. I did not order clams...... More

We had a decent lunch here. Nothing great but can't really complain either.

I took my parents, aunt and son to dinner. The Filet Mignon was amazing, like butter, perfectly done (3 of us had steak -- the restaurant gave us a sirloin by mistake, but took it off the bill). Both the Caesar salad and field greens salad were SO good, we wanted to order more. We would definitely go back!!!
