I have been to more than a few Indian restaurants and this may very well be the best. I got a lunch special, spinach with homemade cheese and it was so good. A small soup was brought out as an appetizer, no charge. I don't know if this happens all the time. I also got naan with lamb and it... More

If you like authentic Indian food, you'll do well here. We have always gotten the "Royal Dinner for Two," which consists of five courses: --Mulligatawny stew, always served piping hot. Mild-mod spiciness. --Samosas--served with a spritz of greens, sauces (tamarind, and SPICY onion/pepper) --two entrees --kheer (rice/almond/raisin pudding...creamy and a delicious ending) --masala chai...again, always piping hot. You can order... More

It has been a while since I was at Shalimar but much has changed and it's all for the better. Firstly, we arrived after the close of their lunch period on a weekend but they accomodated us with a smile and a gracious welcome. The décor has been updated and seems fresher and more authentic. The food and service were... More

Our food was good and the service was attentive without being overbearing. I tried the shrimp nan special, and it was very tasty. The room is a little dark, but otherwise comfortable.

This place is awesome. Delicious, authentic food, speedy service. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. For under 40 dollars there was plenty of food for two (plenty taken home as well!). We will definitely be returning as soon as we can!

We've eaten Indian food in many different countries, and Shalimar is one of the best places we've been to. The quality of food is consistently good. The chicken tikka masala is always delicious as is the chicken jalfreezi, vindaloo, and do-piaza. The naan bread is always hot and fresh. This is by far the best Indian restaurant we've found anywhere... More

We love Indian food and so have fairly high standards. This unpretentious little place is a small gem: mali kofta and chana masala were awesome, naan very good as well. Two other dishes were OK. Service is quiet and friendly. Wine was poured very generously. We will return.

We went on a day-trip to Portsmouth, NH and decided to have dinner in town. Unfortunately it was a Saturday evening so every place had a long wait. We finally came across Shalimar India Restaurant where we were seated right away by a very friendly hostess. Our waiter was also pleasant throughout the dinner although there appeared to be a... Arrived for an early dinner. I ordered mulligatawny soup, chicken tikka masala, and nan. Everything was excellent. The friendly waiter told me that the restaurant celebrated its 20th anniversary last year. I'm not surprised that Shalimar India has been successful for two decades!

We went to this restaurant on our last night in Portsmouth. After eating nothing but delicious meals at other restaurants, we thought we couldn't go wrong. We were wrong! The service was poor to begin with. We ordered the chicken and lamb kebobs that come grilled and skewered. They had been over cooked and therefore were dry and unedible. They... More
