Description: Located just two blocks down from Market Square in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Jay's has become an overnight institution among locals who appreciate exceptional seafood. The quality of fare is unsurpassed, with fish arriving daily from local fisherman as well as some exotic catches from locations such as New Zealand and Ecuador. Four to six varieties appear on the ever-changing "Catch of the Day" menu, complimented by your choice of a gourmet sauce or marinade. The standard menu offers a more traditional flavor, including Maine Crab Cake, Haddock Piccata and the popular Linguine in White Clam Sauce. The atmosphere is casually hip, with no pretense. Reservations encouraged. Open Seven nights a week.

For all the hordes who just drive by Portsmouth harbor on the way to somewhere else, downtown is really humming right now: art galleries, coffee and beer brewers, bookstores, gorgeous historic houses, and of course restaurants. Jumpin' Jays is one of the very best. In a low-ceilinged diner-like setting, the restaurant focuses on higher-end, fresh ingredient-driven presentations of fish flown... More

Once again, we were at a seafood restaurant and it was an enjoyable visit. The waitress was very good and the food selection was excellent. The portions were very adequate( or in some cases quite large). Everything was hot and specials requests were honored. We were also asked if anyone had a food allergy. Definitely a place to visit again.

Last year while visiting Portsmouth I tried to get into Jumping Jay's but the wait was over an hour (As were most of the restaurants in town that evening), so we decided to come back on another trip to New England. This trip, we arrived in town early, and booked a hotel right downtown within easy walking distance of the... More

Jumpin Jay's Fish Café had so many different types of fresh fish. The OPA was amazing with an avocado puree. There were many different salads to choose from and the wine list was extensive. The service was excellent. Loved this place.

I have visited Jumpin Jays since about 15 times in the past years but have never paid it its due via TA. So.... Here's from a local foodie: There is no fresher, better prepared Seafood in NH or the world. If you are lucky enough to love oysters and to truly taste the subtle differences among them-including depth at which... More

As Portsmouth was very busy and we hadn't booked anywhere we headed to Jumping Jay's early - 5.20pm. Within 30 minutes the place was just about full - a testimony to its popularity and quality. The surroundings aren't up market but the food certainly is. I had flounder from the 'catch of the day' part of the menu - with... More

Best cod we've ever had. Soft , flavorful and simply delicious. The cod is from NH and the freshness of that fish is incredible. The pear salad appetizer is another great plate. The pears are nice and warm and the presentation of the plate is great. A must go place to eat in Portsmouth! Amelia

Jumpin Jay's offers a relaxed atmosphere, the interior is a little bit "Californian style". The service is excellent and knowledgeable about fish, providing good recommendations according to your taste. The menu consists mainly of seafood, but also offers a few alternatives. The best part of the entrees are the "catch of the day", where you can choose from a selection... More
