Great Meal

I write a fair amount of reviews and few 5's. This was a great meal and our favorite of five dinners in Portsmouth....not cheap but not stupid expensive and the food is high quality....all four dinners we had as two couples were nice.

I was excited to try Jumpin Jays after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor. I booked reservations indicating in advance that it was our anniversary and looked forward to an excellent dining experience with my husband. Overall, it was disappointing. Perhaps I had higher expectations for the price, but it was not the level of service I am accustomed to... More

Our evening at Jumpin' Jays was perfect in every regard. The food, the service, the pace of the evening, all were a "10". It's not often all those come together. First the food. A nice basket of warm bread was promptly served. It was accompanied by great roasted garlic, butter, and a couple of real Greek olives. Started with the... More

The service was very friendly and efficient -- the waitress was very helpful. First we had fresh sourdough bread , thick crusted and cut by hand served with garlic and olives and butter. It was very very good. I ordered a greens salad and it was one of the best I've had anywhere. The greens were fresh and crunchy with... More

Excellent fresh fish, I had the haddock picatta so tasty, they will do it for you in chicken if you like. I never thought to do haddock this way. My husband had the diver scallops, he loved them but thought value was not their. The star of the night was thr brown butter banana cake witty salted Carmel galatto, not... More

Growing up on the gulf coast I've had my fare share of oysters, albeit a limited variety. The offering this night was the largest, freshest I've seen. Canada, Mass and Cape Cod all represented. The cocktail menu had plenty of variety for my wife and I. The salads were excellent. And my wife's tuna tartare app was incredible.

We took our daughter and family on a NE trip and picked JumpIn Jay's for Portsmouth based on Trip Advisor. Couldn't have picked a better restaurant if your interest was fish. The wait staff was professional, the menu limited to the fish of the day (fresh) and the ambience was clearly New England. A reservation is clearly required as the... More

Bring a sweater, even in the middle of August, because if you sit in the area wedged between the front bar and the divider wall, the air conditioner will blow straight on you and make you feel like you're standing in a windstorm. That being said, this was by far the best meal we had in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. And... More

I'll say this, I never really had a reason to stop by Portsmouth until this place. Non-pretentious. Reasonable prices (which make any dining experience even better). Great service. And pretty amazing seafood. They know fish like nobody's business. The haddock piccata was perfect. The cod was buttery sweet and perfect with any accompaniment. The raw bar was great - especially...
