Located just two blocks down from Market Square in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Jay's has become an overnight institution among locals who appreciate exceptional seafood. The quality of fare is unsurpassed, with fish arriving daily from local fisherman as well as some exotic catches from locations such as New Zealand and Ecuador. Four to six varieties appear on the ever-changing "Catch of the Day" menu, complimented by your choice of a gourmet sauce or marinade. The standard menu offers a more traditional flavor, including Maine Crab Cake, Haddock Piccata and the popular Linguine in White Clam Sauce. The atmosphere is casually hip, with no pretense. Reservations encouraged. Open Seven nights a week.

The Best Place for Fish - no contest

We tour Maine and parts of NH every year. Finding our version of "the best" for certain categories of food is a passion. When it comes to fresh fish, Jay's just gets it. Always a nice choice of very fresh fish that you can pair with a variety of sauces. And unlike a lot of eateries, the sauces... read more

I have been to Jumpin' Jay's Fish Cafe three times since moving to the Portsmouth area, and it is one of the best seafood restaurants I have been to. They offer a very simple menu that includes a wide and always changing selection of fresh catches. These can be prepared simply (grilled with lemon and butter) or you can be... More

We had a fantastic meal at Jumpin' Jay's. The service was very good, and the food was awesome. Excellent Mahi Mahi with Mango salsa! I strongly recommend making a reservation. The place was packed on a Friday night.

We love Jumpin' Jay's. We have visited four times and it has been excellent each time. Everything that we have tried has been first rate. Great service and food. There is a good wine selection, too. We can't wait to go back! Others seem to like it, too .... as it has been busy each time that we have eaten... More

We've been dining in Portsmouth for years, but never stopped at Jumpi' Jay's as it's on the outskirts of the downtown area. What an oversight. From the outside it doesn't look all that appealing, but once inside you realize that this is one popular restaruant. Best "Seafood in town" is not an exaggeration, and their warm bread is delicious. The... More

We wanted fish for dinner this night - a variety of fish - only because we did not know what we wanted. Many of the reviews said the food was good - but there were also some that complained about the service. It gave me a little bit of concern. But it was our service that was stellar - not... More

Set Surf aside for lunch & go to Jumping jays for a spectacular dinner. Always awesome... This time I had the spicy mussels & slurped up the broth like it was a soup afterwards. The oysters were sweet & fresh... And my Tuna with wasabi sauce & huge hit... Until I tasted my wife's scallops... Yummy for sure... Wish I... More

So it's a snowy winter night in lovely and unassuming downtown Portsmouth NH and you and your significant other wander into a cozy "soft on the eyes" dining experience on Congress Street that offers a steady stream of surprises as the minutes tick away . Fresh raw bar followed by camera snapping designed salads. A choice of at least 6-7... More
