Located just two blocks down from Market Square in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Jay's has become an overnight institution among locals who appreciate exceptional seafood.

The quality of fare is unsurpassed, with fish arriving daily from local fisherman as well as some exotic catches from locations such as New Zealand and Ecuador. Four to six varieties appear on the ever-changing "Catch of the Day" menu, complimented by your choice of a gourmet sauce or marinade.

The standard menu offers a more traditional flavor, including Maine Crab Cake, Haddock Piccata and the popular Linguine in White Clam Sauce. The atmosphere is casually hip, with no pretense. Reservations encouraged. Open Seven nights a week.

i thought this restaurant was quite good. Great service and interesting food - the wine list was decent and the prices were fair.

The atmosphere is casual, modern New England hip restaurant. Delicious , fresh fish that is elegantly prepared with wonderful sauces. I recommend the sauce sampler to try with your selection. Our waitress really enhanced our experience in that she was knowledgeable, genuine and extremely gracious. It was during the time of the NH primaries and very busy in town and... More

Jumping Jays fish café - Portsmouth New Hampshire – 2/3/2016 Portsmouth is well known for its fine restaurants and this place is no exception. With a public parking lot across the street you couldn't ask for a more ideal location. KJ, my server, welcomes you with an inviting smile and a very personable demeanor,. You couldn’t ask for a better... More

This probably the 3rd time we've been here and every time is as good as the first. The food is amazing, the drinks, and the atmosphere. The staff is great too. Defiantly give this place a try, it's a little pricey, but worth it.

Delicious seafood and raw bar! Their menu varies, but always has a seafood with a sauce selection... Cod is my favorite there. Great service too. The decor is a little confusing - from the outside, it looks like a fancy place, but inside the tables are not fancy - like they are from a cafeteria. Don't be deterred, the food... More

On a Saturday night in December, my family and I were walking around Portsmouth and came upon Jumpin' Jay's for dinner. As we arrived early enough (and in what I would expect to be slightly off season) so were seated immediately. Service was prompt and excellent - all servers who attended to our table, including our head waitress Britany, were... More

One of the best places for seafood in Portsmouth - great variety of fresh offerings. The food and preparation is great, but take note - the place fills up quickly because it's so popular.

This place was recommended to us by a local friend. Did not disappoint! Our waitress was friendly and staff was attentive! We sTarted with the calamari which was good. A little too much breading. Then clam chowder and it was good. The bread is delicious! My husband had the best piece of swordfish. My linguini with clams was good, a... More

I've eaten here several times, but recently a friend raved about the haddock piccata. I'm not a big fan of haddock, but I had to try it. It was superb. Other favorites are the chowder, the salmon and the oysters. They also serve complimentary fresh-baked bread, along with a dish of olives and roasted garlic. The atmosphere and service are... More

Friends took my wife and I out to eat and it was great. We both had the Haddock Picitta and it was wonderful. This was our second time here and we will be back. The waitress was attentive and very knowledgeable about the food and wine. Great goof, great service.
