Description: Located just two blocks down from Market Square in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Jay's has become an overnight institution among locals who appreciate exceptional seafood. The quality of fare is unsurpassed, with fish arriving daily from local fisherman as well as some exotic catches from locations such as New Zealand and Ecuador. Four to six varieties appear on the ever-changing "Catch of the Day" menu, complimented by your choice of a gourmet sauce or marinade. The standard menu offers a more traditional flavor, including Maine Crab Cake, Haddock Piccata and the popular Linguine in White Clam Sauce. The atmosphere is casually hip, with no pretense. Reservations encouraged. Open Seven nights a week.

I have visited Jumpin Jays since about 15 times in the past years but have never paid it its due via TA. So.... Here's from a local foodie: There is no fresher, better prepared Seafood in NH or the world. If you are lucky enough to love oysters and to truly taste the subtle differences among them-including depth at which... More

As Portsmouth was very busy and we hadn't booked anywhere we headed to Jumping Jay's early - 5.20pm. Within 30 minutes the place was just about full - a testimony to its popularity and quality. The surroundings aren't up market but the food certainly is. I had flounder from the 'catch of the day' part of the menu - with... More

Best cod we've ever had. Soft , flavorful and simply delicious. The cod is from NH and the freshness of that fish is incredible. The pear salad appetizer is another great plate. The pears are nice and warm and the presentation of the plate is great. A must go place to eat in Portsmouth! Amelia

Jumpin Jay's offers a relaxed atmosphere, the interior is a little bit "Californian style". The service is excellent and knowledgeable about fish, providing good recommendations according to your taste. The menu consists mainly of seafood, but also offers a few alternatives. The best part of the entrees are the "catch of the day", where you can choose from a selection... More

We went in on a whim expecting it to be a more casual place. Service was great and the wine list had plenty of variety. I had the haddock piccata which was excellent. It was a generous portion of fish with a fabulous sauce, just the right amount of mashed potatoes, and plenty of asparagus and golden beets. It was... More

A great restaurant in downtown Portsmouth. The service was great. Our server was very knowledgeable about the wines and the food menu. All of the staff were very friendly and it was evident that they worked as a team as several people assisted our table. Food was well presented and delicious. We lingered after our main course into dessert and... More

We arrived early and while we waited for the rest of our party the six of us were ushered into a separate bar area that seated exactly six and spent over an hour conversing with the bar tender, sampling drinks and enjoying appetizers. My wife had an excellent and unusual beet salad while I enjoyed PEI mussels. Then after we... More

My husband and I went for an anniversary dinner. The food was great and the fish tasted very fresh. We both loved the mussels appetizer and our entrees (linguini with clams and coconut curry seafood mixture). My only suggestion would be to offer rice with the coconut curry dish. It was definitely missing a carb to soak up that wonderful... More
