With so many restaurants in and around Portsmouth to choose from, we did our homework on TA to find what we hoped would be a winner and deliver the type of seafood one would expect from a lively seacoast city. We were not disappointed with Jumpin Jay's. Located on the main street in downtown Portsmouth, what it lacked in setting... More

Everyone knows of Jumpin Jay's; locals and tourists alike. The food is fresh and delicious. Some old flawlessly cooked standards and some creative new dishes that come as a delightful surprise. Raw bar was fresh and just perfect. Great raw bar makes me so happy. Simple, fresh, and guiltless. (Calorie wise) Coconut Curry! Well not so guiltless, but oh so... More

When I first arrived in Portsmouth I asked a few people where they would recommend supper for someone who loves seafood. I think the Jumpin Jay's Fish Café was the first place most people recommended. the menu selection is eye popping for someone who lives so far away from the coast like me, but the food is wonderful. I think... More

Ate one of the best cod ever, pairred with lobster bisque. Truly exceptional. I will go there soon, even if it means a 6 hour drive from Montreal.

We went to Jumpin' Jays on the Friday night of Homecoming at UNH. The town was jammed, but we called at 7:55pm and had no trouble getting a table at 8:15pm, and while the restaurant was pretty full, it wasn't the mob scene we were fearing. I had an excellent local beer recommended by our waitress. The list of wines... More

We visited on a Tuesday night at 6:30 without reservations in mid-October and were shocked at the crowds. Originally we were told that there would be a 35-40 minute wait and after taking a walk around town and returning, we were still waiting at 55 minutes and the crowd wasn't thinning. In fact, people who had finished eating and had... More

If you appreciate high quality, fresh seafood you will love Jumping Jay's. In the six years I have been frequenting, never have I experienced a bad, or even mediocre, meal. They consistently offer wide variety of fresh fish from which to select. Tuesday is Shuck-a- Buck night when all oysters are a buck! Love it! The wine list could use... More

The yellow fin tuna tartare was outstanding, the service was terrific and the experience was memorable. The fresh salad and fresh fish were worth the drive. The cocktails were unique and delicious. The dessert was forgettable but the rest of the meal and service was so great that it did not bring our opinion of the restaurant down at all.

Finally a restaurant that takes cooking fish seriously. The welcome desk is pleasant, the servers knowledgeable and caring. The food was superb, can't wait to go back.
