Located just two blocks down from Market Square in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Jay's has become an overnight institution among locals who appreciate exceptional seafood. The quality of fare is unsurpassed, with fish arriving daily from local fisherman as well as some exotic catches from locations such as New Zealand and Ecuador. Four to six varieties appear on the ever-changing "Catch of the Day" menu, complimented by your choice of a gourmet sauce or marinade. The standard menu offers a more traditional flavor, including Maine Crab Cake, Haddock Piccata and the popular Linguine in White Clam Sauce. The atmosphere is casually hip, with no pretense. Reservations encouraged. Open Seven nights a week.

Amazing tartare & Tuna

We share an excellent tartare with avocado mousse as an appetizer. Husband had the tuna tataki as main course and i had the 6 crab claws ( served claws only not the " leg " attached ). Tuna was amazing. Crab tasted watery but didn't put a downside on our experience. Service was excellent... read more

Jumpin Jay's lived up to its name on our visit. The place was packed and loud with people enjoying themselves. We really enjoyed the food we ordered which was the calimari appetizer and lobster orecchiette and the yellow fin tuna. We did get the sauce sampler which was fun. All in all this was a very nice visit and we... More

Visited for the first time on a Friday evening. Service was good and food was fine although I wouldn't call it memorable. Located right on Congress St. which has a parking lot across the street so at least not a problem to park. While our experience was OK we probably wouldn't go back. There are other restaurants in Portsmouth that... More

Despite the rustic atmosphere and funky exposed cord lighting, Jumpin' Jays has some of, if not the, best fish in Portsmouth. It's a little pricier than some other Portsmouth restaurants, but if you are from Boston or NYC, you'll think it's reasonable or maybe inexpensive.

This restaurant was amazing. The staff was extremely helpful. Our reservation was mixed up and they figured out a way to seat us even though it was very busy. The food was delicious and literally melted in your mouth. My husband had the swordfish and I had the scallops. Everything was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend a stop here... More

This was our second visit and it did not disappoint. Great mussels with peppers. Fantastic Swordfish steak with several choices of sauces to accompany the fish. Excellent deserts.

What a fun place, with great food. The fish is fresh and simply prepared. Make sure you get the sauce sampler for your fish and the calamari for an app. The place is always busy, make a reservation on the weekends.

I wanted seafood in Portsmouth and saw this in TripAdvisor and gave it a try. First I used Open Table and made a reservation for the wrong day. Even thou I did that and the place was busy - the lady at the front desk was able to get me in with only a 20 minute wait. The waitress was... More

The price=quality! Comfortable atmosphere walking distance from our great room at the Hotel Portsmouth. The service, reservation accommodation, and food were highly rated.

Our hotel recommended Jumpin' Jay's because of the atmosphere. It's very casual and modern, so don't go expecting a sea theme. I had Diver's Scallops served with a peach mango salsa that was so fresh and perfectly seared. The corn "relish" served with the meal is slightly sweet, laced with red pepper, onion and some cilantro. Visually appealing and tastes... More
