Very Good Italian with Atmosphere

Dim lights, perhaps a bit too dim, and Italian Cafe Decor make the Cafe Med a romantic stop for dinner. Our server was friendly and very helpful. They had no problem making substitutions. The food was plentiful and savory. My veal Milanese was tasty, and the house salad was more than ample... read more

We were on our way home and stopped in Portsmouth for dinner. The menu listed on Tripadvisor brought us to this lovely restaurant. The service was wonderful the food was delicious and the wine (list) was incredible. Having dined on Federal Hill in Providence and the North End in Boston, I feel Cafe Med was comparable. Great pasta and other... More

Dropped in randomly with some business colleagues last night. The size of the portions were absolutely enormous. The lasagne serving was a complete mountain!! We had to doggy bag half of it. All very tasty. Good kiwi wines served - recommended.

Cafe Med has been around for quite a while, but is always a great spot when looking for a hearty italian meal. My go to here is the bolognese - always, always delicious!

I've heard that this is a lot of locals favorites, and was a little disappointed. We came for restaurant week during lunch. Our first course was the zuppa ribolatta, which was really delicious, and the caprese salad, which looked pretty regular. For entrees we had the tuna, which was cooked to temperature perfectly, but lacked any seasoning or flavor besides... More

Elaine and I had dinner with friends a week ago and decided to try it out for Saturday lunch. We shared my soup and her salad as well as my meat loaf and her tuna. The luncheon was $16.95 pf, but if I had been offered the same menu at the $29.95 fixed price, I would not have been disappointed.... More

Yes- it was a busy Friday of Portsmouth Restaurant week- and the service was fine though we could have used better water service. Reasonable wine list, good sized portions, and varied menu options. The duck salad was OK - generous slices of pink moist duck but the skin should have been seared to crisp instead of flabby with fat. Cherry... More

I visited for Portsmouth Restaurant week. I had a glass of Chianti with my 3-course choices being: App-Duck salad: was amazingly delish! Great portion. The duck was cooked perfectly. Entree-Veal Osso Bucco with saffron mushroom risotto. Meat was tender. The risotto lacked the favor of the description in the menu. Dessert-cannoli. Unfort. the shell was not crunchy so it didn't... When I discovered Portsmouth's Cafe Med, I thought I had died and gone to Boston's North End. Cafe Mediterraneo's food, service and atmosphere are right on par with all the restaurants in that better known part of New England. With all we have tried there and the many times we have visited, we have never been disappointed. If your craving... More

Ate here with my husband and 2 year old on a Friday night. Full restaurant but the service was great and there was a quiet ambiance. Everything we ordered was delicious: arugula salad, soups (butternut and clam chowder), butternut/pumpkin ravioli, filet mignon, chicken picatta. Tiramisu was just ok. I thought it was way worth going for the fall themed dishes... More
