Trip Down Memory Lane

I love this place. Wish I had more time to enjoy. However... This trip, I had Scotch Eggs, French Onion Soup, and Fish & chips. Each built on the next. Superior food! Also, the drink was a cask ale that was quite good. Not spectacular. I have had a lot of beer all over thw world. That particular... read more

An upstairs English Pub with great atmosphere. Lots of English and Irish brews on tap and food that is consistently good. We have eaten here many times and often stop in when we are in Portsmouth around lunch time.

This pub served a nice dinner. The atmosphere is pretty much what you'd expect from the name Pub. Food was a bit above average and pretty normal pricing.

First time to Portsmouth and loved the town. We were shopping and walking around taking in the architecture and stopped for a drink in this inviting pub. Excellent selection of beers. The food caught our attention. Checked out the menu and what a variety of food and reasonably priced. So we stayed for lunch. The Scotch egg was good, fish... More

The food and drinks were great. I ordered the salmon with Basmati rice as well as the pub fries. The salmon was cooked to perfection and had great flavor. The fries were perfectly crunchy and there was very little grease residue. I also ordered the Churchill which was a little heavy on the whiskey but it was very good. The waitress... More

This was the perfect choice for celebrating graduation with a large party (more than 12 people). They have a wide selection of beers on tap and also imported stuff from the UK and continental Europe. The menu consists of what you would typically find in a pub: burgers, sandwiches, fish and chips. They also have some finger food and beer... More

I've been to Portsmouth quite a number of times over the past ten years or so and until this past trip I had never even known this place existed. In fact, once I stayed at the hotel diagonally across from it and still never noticed it. Only tripped on it this time as there was a parking space right in... More

My husband and I love their black and black beer mixture!! So tasty! And their bangers and mash and fish n' chips were awesome!! Stay away from the shepherds pie and other pies, we wanted to love them, but they really weren't good at all. Otherwise we loved their sausage appetizer with fried egg in the middle and the ambience... More

Being born in the UK I'm always looking for a great and genuine British style restaurant menu that isn't just the US comparison or take on a theme. The Coat of Arms pub knows how to deliver. British pub feel, couple of dart boards with darts behind the bar, a pool/snooker table and lots of atmosphere. The drink selection is... More

As other reviewers have said, this is a place for locals and I agree. However, my local pub wouldn't treat any of their customers as poorly as this place does. We love finding pubs when we travel and were excited to try this place. But, we almost turned around when we walked up the shabby stairs and we probably should... More
