First visit to this pub

Been going to Portsmouth for years and never visited this pub. Shame on me. 5 cask conditioned brews always on tap, plus many craft brews. Grabbed an app, the pretzels with welch rarebit. Everything was good, and good service. Nice homey atmosphere like a British pub.

The unfriendly waitress took drink order and then dissapeared. Another waiter came over after 20 mins and took our dinner order. 45 mins later food arrived. Mac and cheese was watery and warm. Cottage pie was good. Portions small. Took another 20 mins to get our bill once meal was finished. Service was just terrible. First time in our lives... More

I like this pub because it reminds me of pubs I've visited in Scotland and Ireland -- dark, cozy, and interesting. It has an excellent selection of drafts, and the food is very good. The fish and chips was on a par with the ones I had in Ireland. Good service, good prices, nice ambience, and really good food!

This place is fun to come with friends, have a few drinks and talk. I've been here a couple times now, and I would go back every time I am up there.

We have been going here for over 17 years. We aren't "regulars" but enjoy a visit once in a while as we are about an hours drive away. There is always a great atmosphere and friendly staff. We like to play darts, and Snooker (UK pool). The food is good. I always like the chips with curry sauce, sausage roll,... More

Always a little worried when my favorite eateries change their menu, but the new menu at the Coat still has all my goto items like the savory pies plus some nice additions. My wife and I split the Kedgeree cakes as an appetizer. They may be a relic of British Colonialism but the smoked haddock (from Maine) with potato and... More

We stopped in for a pint or two and had a quick bite. The wings are awesome, the Guinness colds and the service very good. Its looks like an old English pub and has great quotes around the room. If you are in Portsmouth, try to stop in for a drink or two, you wont be disappointed.

This fun pub is on the second floor of a plain looking building. Once up the stairs, it's like stepping into an authentic British Pub. Not sure if they have an elevator, one wasn't obvious. The staff are very friendly, atmosphere is comfortable. We had the Crispy Huntsman's Chicken Caesar Salad which was delicious. It came with some crispy garlic... More

This place has a good, low key atmosphere. They have a nice selection of beers and good pub food. The pub nachos are good!

I was not sure I would enjoy authentic English fare but this was delicious. Went with people who had been to England and they thought the steak and kidney pie and other pies were well done. They also served some Moroccan dishes that I can say were excellent. My only real complaint is that it took 40 minutes to get... More
