Description: The Beach Plum opened in 1992 at North Hampton state beach as a breakfast...
The Beach Plum opened in 1992 at North Hampton state beach as a breakfast and lunch restaurant. The next year, a better location became available just down the street (at it's current location) and it became a take out food and ice cream stand. That original location continues to operate seasonally April - October each year. Based on strong growth in the business at that beach location, a second Beach Plum location was opened at 2800 Lafayette Road (Route 1) in Portsmouth on St Patrick's Day 2011. This Portsmouth location features an expanded menu that includes award winning fried seafood with both indoor and outside deck dining. The Portsmouth Beach Plum was featured on TV Diner in 2012 and Phantom Gourmet in 2011 which named it as a Great 8 restaurant for both it's famous lobster rolls AND fried clams. The Beach Plum is believed to be the only restaurant in New England to be so honored as 1 of the 8 best for BOTH seafood specialties. Plans are now underway for a third location.

Very comfortable

You go up to the long counter, place your order, having looked at the huge board, and it comes pretty quickly to your indoor picnic table. My $9.99 haddock sandwich had a HUGE filet in it. My $2.99 draft beer was cold and delicious.

If you're looking for a lobster roll chock full of lobster meat, get over there! And if you want some corn fritters that taste like mini doughnuts, this is the place to be!

My buddy and I spent a leisurely day off in the Portsmouth and Kittery, ME, area on Monday. We ate brunch, drove out to Nubble Light and then enjoyed greater Portsmouth. At mid-afternoon we decided to have an early dinner and I researched the best lobster rolls in the area. As you likely have guessed, The Beach Plum was prominently... More

Probably 15 - 20 minutes off of route 95 north headed toward home with awesome fried food... you just can not beat the place. Giant lobster rolls that would satisfy any lobster lover. The kind of place that has picnic tables in and outside... you order your food at the counter and you bring back a cute little lobster sign... More

Stopped here for lunch - fried scallops, clam roll and corn fritters - yum! The seafood was great. I have to agree with another reviewer re: the restaurant itself - it would look right at home on the beach. It's indoor seating at picnic tables. Worth a stop for a quick informal meal!

THE most incredible, ridiculously large portion of Lobster Roll I have ever eaten! Wow, my meal tonight was an absolute win, win. Onion rings were fantastic as well. We are up here on business and one of the guys at work recommended coming here. We could not have made a better decision for tonight's meal. I will definitely return before... More

Really not what one expects along Route 1 in a non-descript shopping area. Picnic tables, counter to order and then wait for the friendly wait-staff to bring plastic trays. Standard seafood menu, very well rendered, special mention to the fried shrimp. Beer selection is fine, wines not so much. The only thing missing here is crashing surf.

I visit here often, whether at this location or at North Hampton. I am never disappointed!! I am a true New Englander and love my Lobster!! I usually get the 20oz and it's just how it should be, just a little mayo to hold the meat together on a nice buttered hot dog roll! The lobster is so sweet and... More

Pricey yes but well worth every cent. Have had lobster rolls from most places in the NH seacoast and neighboring coastal communities in Maine & Mass but none compares to the offerings of the Beach Plum (the North Hampton & Portsmouth locations). Recently heard that they have a new location in Epping (in the same plaza as the new movie... More
