Description: The Beach Plum opened in 1992 at North Hampton state beach as a breakfast...
The Beach Plum opened in 1992 at North Hampton state beach as a breakfast and lunch restaurant. The next year, a better location became available just down the street (at it's current location) and it became a take out food and ice cream stand. That original location continues to operate seasonally April - October each year. Based on strong growth in the business at that beach location, a second Beach Plum location was opened at 2800 Lafayette Road (Route 1) in Portsmouth on St Patrick's Day 2011. This Portsmouth location features an expanded menu that includes award winning fried seafood with both indoor and outside deck dining. The Portsmouth Beach Plum was featured on TV Diner in 2012 and Phantom Gourmet in 2011 which named it as a Great 8 restaurant for both it's famous lobster rolls AND fried clams. The Beach Plum is believed to be the only restaurant in New England to be so honored as 1 of the 8 best for BOTH seafood specialties. Plans are now underway for a third location in Epping,NH.

Solid

This is a good lobster roll. It has a tad to much mayo in my opinion but the sweetness of the lobster was still evident. The 6 oz roll was plenty. I don't believe that it's only 6oz of meat... No way. Gold star!

The Lobster roll was so good and so overstuffed with huge chunks of lobster. It was very clean and the staff was friendly

$3.99 for a 'Kiddie' dish of ice cream? It was very generous...but only got about 6 minute chunks of what they called cookie dough..... Dirty floor and plastic table tops were not the cleanest....... Would I go back? No...just go to Market Basket & buy some ice cream there and eat it out of the container?

WAY over priced fried seafood! I don't generally like fried seafood but when I go there, I am always shocked how much it costs just to eat lunch. Two people can easily spend $25-30 for lunch!

My family and I decided to stop for dinner here for a decent meal but it wasn't that decent. We sat down at a table that seemed normal. I take a sip of my lemonade and feel a drop land on my head, and it turns out the vent above us was leaking. So we got up and moved to... More

Love this place! Always, always, always have to get their lobster. Usual we get lobster rolls, but this time we got their lobster salad. Very generous portions. Always great!

Maybe it was our fault for not trying the lobster roll or ordering ice cream (the two things this place is apparently known for), but after reading so many good reviews we were disappointed. Everything was average at best (seafood chowder, chicken fingers, burgers and wraps) - but the kicker was the Mac and cheese my son ordered off the... More

Stopped here on the way home from a weekend in VT/NH/ME. Nice spot with outdoor seating. Hubby ordered the 10oz lobster roll with fries and a float and I got the bacon cheeseburger since I don't do seafood. The burger was delicious for a seafood joint, and the hubby loved his lobster roll... full of claw meat.

My wife and I stop here often for both ice cream but mostly for the Lobster Roll. They have several sizes but we usually get the 11 ounce, foot long. It is more than enough for both of us to enjoy and leave a little room for a small ice cream for dessert.

Read all the reviews and had to stop in. Myself and 2 teenage boys ordered the 10 oz. rolls. Definitely a lot of lobster, but today more shredded than "chunks" with a little too much mayo for me. I wouldn't turn one away by any means, it was good. Service friendly, we had fries and also fried oyster which were... More
