Nice ambience, good food

I've eaten here 2-3 times. Good cocktails, nice appetizers, wonderful ambience, and excellent service. It's a little pricey, but the food is really good. We were a party of 4 and ordered cocktails, different starters, salads, soup and dinners. The tuna bites, butternut squash soup, scallops, lamb pop pie, short ribs, octopus and pork belly, duck and pear salad. Everything was excellent as was our server. They also has a number of gluten free options for my daughter who is celiac and told her... More

Had dinner at Mombo on 12/29/15. Wife had the Chicken Special (she never orders chicken out) and I had the Braised Short Rib. Both meals were fantastic and unique. This is a must visit old style restaurant with its ever changing menu. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner Tom whose love of cooking showed in his enthusiasm in... More

Our first time to Mombo was for dinner on a cold rainy night. So stepping inside was even more warm and inviting! The hostess greeted us with a smile and was very friendly. The food and service was excellent. All four of us got different entrées. They were all delicious and much enjoyed. We sat facing the open kitchen, which... More

We've been here a few times and every time we go it is always good. The atmosphere is really beautiful throughout the entire restaurant and sitting at the bar is a great option to see the action in the kitchen while dining

We had read the menu online and were wildly enthusiastic. My wife loved her salted caramel martini and my margarita was ok. I love steak tartare and its hard to come by, and I was SO ready! Not only was it flavorless, there were two large unchewable fat stringers, which I had to delicately remove from my mouth. How can... More

We recently re-visited Mombo and were WOW'd once again with the level of service and food quality. First of all, if you like to see how your food is prepared sit at the chef's bar - you will get to interact with the staff and see the food as it is being made. Second, you cannot go wrong...with anything...on the... More

Went here on Halloween. Not only dinner, but the annual Halloween Parade route is right in front. Dinner and a show. Menu is a bit pricey for entrees. Not sure I'd do dinner again but definitely go back for an appetizer and drinks. We've had mussels at a lot of places, but I have to say those at Mombo are... More

This is just the sort of restaurant we love to find. A small, intimate spot, built into an old general store right in the heart of historic Portsmouth. The is a chef's bar where you can watch the action and a chefs table just behind that that looks like it would seat 4 comfortably. There are many options in Portsmouth... More
