I had a wonderful pre-Christmas dinner last night with my boyfriend's family at Mombo. Tom and the whole staff was incredibly kinda and accommodating. Everything we had was wonderful but my favorites were an acorn squash soup with short rib which was spectacular and the duck entree that was cooked perfectly and served with an amazing squash sauce and dumplings.... Decor, ambiance and service are very good but when it comes to the food it is very disappointing. We are going there for fine dining. On the taste side the lack of flavor is the major complaint. The dishes(appetizers and entrees) are very good looking. Presentation is perfect. But after the first bite you take another one hoping to get... More

Portions good, but each of our four meals had something that could have been a little better. Lobster bisque outstanding as was the bread. Duck dish amazing! It is pricey but the ambiance second to none. Very warm and charming. Will return for a special occasion.

Although atmosphere and service were very pleasant, the food was disappointingly lackluster, especially for the price. Very good wine and beer selections, as well as list of interesting cocktails. The charcuterie (“award winning”) was not exceptional, several meats were in pate form, only two small local cheeses were included, and the dish was dominated by the jams, ground mustard and... Ambiance, wait staff are still very good. No complaints, the people are still friendly and courteous. But something is different with the food and prices. They had the best charcuterie on the seacoast, but now instead of actual meats it is pates; instead of a variety of cheeses it is 1 small slice of two. One slice doesn't feed 2... More

We drive the hour to Portsmouth for dinner fairly regularly and have our favorites (including Jumpin' Jay's and Anika Jans). But it is always hard to try a new restaurant as we don't get to our "regulars" quite enough. Am I glad we took the chance on Mombo. The setting is rustic lovely. The service was great. And the food... More

This restaurant is as pretty close to upscale as you will find in Portsmouth NH. Located just off the main part of Portsmouth, it is located at the edge of Strawberry Banke, Portsmouth's historic equivalent to Old Sturbridge Village. This was our first visit to this restaurant. Reservations in advance are pretty much required during the summer months and strongly... More

Went to Mombo last night for the first time after the family and I went to Strawberry Banke Ghosts on the Bank, it was the perfect setting and a great meal. I think Mombo got it right for what I believe their objective is, which is to take a traditional American venue and put a creative modern spin on it.... More

I have been to Mombo on numerous occasions, however, most recently was by far the best! A delightful Whipped Bone Marrow appetizer was first, and the star of the evening, the Ghost Chili Spare Rib with dark chocolate followed. WOW. We came in early to beat the rush and had an amazing experience. Things can get pretty loud at times... More
