Visited recently and first time Open Table reservation didn't seem to have registered with the restaurant. No problem and we were sat in a great table. My wife is vegan and while no immediate obvious choices on the menu, the very knowledgeable waitress arranged for a meal to be put together. i had wonderful seafood dishes and all very competently... The four of us chose vastly different types of entrees but each, and we did all taste one anothers', was perfectly done, with the most interesting accompaniments. First we started with shared appetizers of soft shell crabs and a lamb fondue; the sauce was so good that it got left on the table for bread dunking. Then the entrees came-... More

You walk in and know you are somewhere special. Best for smaller groups. Come hungry as you will want to try many presentations. They have an awesome bar, both for serving drinks and our favorite, the kitchen view bar. Watch the chef's in action and have a chance to learn inside tips, as crowd allows.

We enjoyed sitting at the Chef's bar and watching the orders go out and chatting with the staff. The food was excellent and the atmosphere warm and welcoming.

Mambo is a beautiful restaurant - the colors are warm and vibrant, the setting - right next to historic Strawbery Banke and across from Prescott Park - is quaint, and the food...well the food and the service are hit or miss. When Mombo first opened we went to dinner twice and for drinks a few times. The food and the... More

We have wanted to try Mombo for a while now. We loved the ambiance and our waiter was excellent. Food was all over the map, maybe a bit too exotic for me. Wife had scallops which were very good but my cod was severely overpowered by smoked items used in the sauce. Desserts were quite good and the drink menu... More

We visited Mombo on an extremely cold January evening, and found it warm and accommodating. Beautifully restored building on the edge of Strawbery Banke, and they have free parking which is pretty rare for a downtown restaurant. I had the lobster bisque for my appetizer, and I really would have been happy with just that dish along with the excellent... More

This is not an exaggeration: this is the best restaurant I've been to in years (and I dine out a lot) I went to dinner at Monbo with six friends and my husband. The atmosphere is beautiful, warm and welcoming on a cold winter night. We were seated upstairs and, because it was a Sunday night, we had that area... More

Attractive ambiance, good food, but pricey. Haven't been in a while, hoping next time portions are a little larger.

A serious advantage of Portsmouth over other destinations in the Northeast is, that for such a small city, it has so much to do and so many good restaurants. Mombo is one such restaurant. Our first impression was how handsome the space was, with its dramatic high ceilings, its exposed posts and heavy timbers, and a stone fireplace which was... More
