We have wanted to try Mombo for a while now. We loved the ambiance and our waiter was excellent. Food was all over the map, maybe a bit too exotic for me. Wife had scallops which were very good but my cod was severely overpowered by smoked items used in the sauce. Desserts were quite good and the drink menu... More

We visited Mombo on an extremely cold January evening, and found it warm and accommodating. Beautifully restored building on the edge of Strawbery Banke, and they have free parking which is pretty rare for a downtown restaurant. I had the lobster bisque for my appetizer, and I really would have been happy with just that dish along with the excellent... More

This is not an exaggeration: this is the best restaurant I've been to in years (and I dine out a lot) I went to dinner at Monbo with six friends and my husband. The atmosphere is beautiful, warm and welcoming on a cold winter night. We were seated upstairs and, because it was a Sunday night, we had that area... More

Attractive ambiance, good food, but pricey. Haven't been in a while, hoping next time portions are a little larger. More

A serious advantage of Portsmouth over other destinations in the Northeast is, that for such a small city, it has so much to do and so many good restaurants. Mombo is one such restaurant. Our first impression was how handsome the space was, with its dramatic high ceilings, its exposed posts and heavy timbers, and a stone fireplace which was... More

I have been to Mombo a couple of times now and each time has just been okay. Our food was way over salted and over cooked, but I will say they have a very nice cheese plate. Drinks were mediocre, wine list chaotic, and service was definitely lacking. For the price I expect more More

Party of four, great appetizers, but the osso buca was the worst I've ever had, tasteless. Sauce was like a flour gravy gone bad. To make it worse, we ordered a second bottle of wine for the main course; it when we were almost finished. Restaurant was not particularly busy either. Not worth the hefty price of the dinner. More

When attention to detail is important, the Mombo is just the ticket. We spent 10 days traveling the coast and have eaten at some fine restaurants, but Mombo is one of the best for innovative food, artful presentation, and warm atmosphere. The vegetarian dish, Gnudi, was light, most flavorful, with a most gorgeous plated arrangement. Jamie, our server was outstanding... More

All 3 courses were fantastic- great menu choices which were quality without the usual American quantity which we had missed after two weeks traveling! The waiter was very knowledgeable. The had our favorite wine at a reasonable price Couldn't fault the place- well worth a visit More

Had a fantastic evening with friends! Mombo provided fabulous food, and the restaurant staff made to feel so welcome and comfortable! They give great service but are not overbearing. My husband and I had beet salad, which was very good, and our friends had the mussels - "to die for". Entrees were wonderful: a superb cod, very good duck breast... More
