We had dinner here for the first time this evening, for my husband's birthday. He wanted a cozy place with a fireplace and he loved the open ceiling with the dark beams and the Colonial feel. The service was fantastic right from the front door, the food was absolutely amazing, and we had a really memorable dinner. The only problem... More

My husband and I dined at Mombo for our anniversary and it was fantastic. Our meal - apps through dessert - was great. The food is worth the trek slightly outside of the main downtown area. The main floor dining area seemed a bit crowded, so we were pleased to sit in a cozy spot on the second floor. We... More

This was our first time at Mombo. Went with some friends who have been there before. The restaurant is located just outside Strawberry Banke in the old SB Museum shop. The décor is rustic and very nice. Nice bar and bartender very friendly. There were 4 of us. Had Beet Salads and Caesar salad all very good. Had Duck Breast-... More

This is a wonderfully cozy restaurant to visit on a cold winter night. My only complaint is that the menu is overly complicated to the point that one really can't understand what certain dishes are. Plus, the servings are huge. It would be nice to be able to have an appetizer and a main course and maybe a dessert. The... More

We first visited Mombo last year on a trip through Portsmouth. We visited again on during a two night stay and we were not disappointed this time either. Food was great and the service wonderful as well. If you are looking for a nice diner in Portsmouth you can't go wrong here.

We have been to Mombo several times over the years - admittedly the first time was not fabulous but when I voiced my disappointment to the manager he brought us back for a complimentary dinner and it was perfection. We had macaroni and cheese that was simply decadent, chicken in various ways (that is literally what the dish was), and... More

I had a wonderful pre-Christmas dinner last night with my boyfriend's family at Mombo. Tom and the whole staff was incredibly kinda and accommodating. Everything we had was wonderful but my favorites were an acorn squash soup with short rib which was spectacular and the duck entree that was cooked perfectly and served with an amazing squash sauce and dumplings.... Decor, ambiance and service are very good but when it comes to the food it is very disappointing. We are going there for fine dining. On the taste side the lack of flavor is the major complaint. The dishes(appetizers and entrees) are very good looking. Presentation is perfect. But after the first bite you take another one hoping to get... More

Portions good, but each of our four meals had something that could have been a little better. Lobster bisque outstanding as was the bread. Duck dish amazing! It is pricey but the ambiance second to none. Very warm and charming. Will return for a special occasion.

Although atmosphere and service were very pleasant, the food was disappointingly lackluster, especially for the price. Very good wine and beer selections, as well as list of interesting cocktails. The charcuterie (“award winning”) was not exceptional, several meats were in pate form, only two small local cheeses were included, and the dish was dominated by the jams, ground mustard and...
