We love Mambo!! A really nice spot in Portsmouth right by Prescott Park. They have a nice parking lot which is convenient, because parking can be a problem in Portsmouth. Have eaten here on 6 occasions and the food is always special, unusual preparation, delicious. Great selection of seasonal food....they change items on their menus often. Wonderful selection of salads,... More

The quality of the food here is excellent, and the combination of flavors is both unexpected and pleasing. Not a dull item on the menu, and it was difficult to pick from the so many great options. Extensive wine and cocktail list (also with some very unique pairings). The overall atmosphere and ambiance made for a pleasant evening, and I... More

I avoided this place in the past because of the name. I thought it would be African food but nothing could be further from the truth! This is a great New England upscale tavern type atmosphere with amazing food. The menu is eclectic and interesting with surprising touches. We started with the Wild Maine Mussels for $12...Sauteed Tasso ham &... More

I always think of Mombo when we have a special occasion to celebrate and it never disappoints. Last night we headed there for Valentine's Day and, as usual, the meal was creative, flavorful, and just plain amazing. The chef knows how to bounce the flavors off of one another so that every bite is delicious. I had the scallops served... More

Have been here many times, mostly at the bar and in the summer! Great professional, friendly staff! Food and drinks are always good. A different twist on menu items, homemade bread, just a nice place. Had dinner last night and the crab stuffed sole was a bit spicy, which was not mentioned in the menu (unfortunately, I have a very... More

Granted, the wedding meal category isn't known for culinary delights, though Mombo certainly outpaces all of the others. It was good enough to prompt us to return for a dinner not related to an event with a large group of people who have to be served all at the very same time. The salad was lightly dressed and lovely to... More

Completely agree with all the other positive reviews this splendid restaurant has received. The ambiance is perfect -- warm, quiet, tables set far enough apart so that you don't have to share conversation. Service impeccable: attentive but not overbearing. Three menu items worthy of particular praise: Butter poached asparagus salad (ample for two); crab stuffed flounder; Black Forest cake creme... More

My husband and I returned to Mombo last night. It was our 3rd visit to this fine restaurant since last summer. This time their January special of a 3 course meal for $34.95 attracted us. We were not disappointed. Whether you order the special or from the regular menu, you will be treated to an amazingly creative dinner. The seared... More

My husband and I were married in early October of 2013, at Mombo. From the moment we stepped in for our initial visit with Tom Perron, the General Manager, we were enchanted. It was everything we were looking for for our perfect wedding: New England charm, amazing food, in the heart of downtown Portsmouth. And the cheerful and helpful employees... More

Went here with my wife and had an excellent time. I had the pistachio crusted duck and it was unbelievable. Our server was extremely friendly and attentive. I can't wait to go back.
