The menu was very small with few offerings especially for non-meat items. The restaurant is way way overpriced for what it is serving, making it appear to be very elitist. I've eaten at many very chic restaurants all over the world and this is not one of them. I was VERY disappointed and will never return! I don't remember any... More

We went to Mombo for our 30th anniversary. It was a memorable, and the best meal that we've had there yet. Thanks to Tom for his great management. The menu is fantastic! Book now!

Last evening we tried Mombo for the first time. We love Portsmouth and the outstanding restaurants there but somehow Mombo had gone unnoticed. Looking for something different to try during restaurant week we were intrigued by the menu, so we made a reservation. The dining area has great ambiance. The staff is very friendly. I rated it as very good... More

Portsmouth is old town with numerous buildings dating back to the 1800's. And then there is the Strawberry Banke section where Mombo is located. This area dates back to the 1630's. Mombo is at the entrance to the Strawberry Banke Museum (an area of buildings) and across from Prescott Park. So across the street are beautiful gardens and areas where... More

First experience here during restaurant week. The restaurant itself is charming, service great, but food is average to very good, depending on the food. We both had the Crab cake Pierogies but there was only one and the pastry was chewy, side of pea salad and dressing were great. Both had the Espresso Bean crusted steak, cooked perfectly, but the... What a memorable meal we had last night at Mombo! The atmosphere is very charming, the service was outstanding and the food ...... oh the food! I'll say this .... it is VERY obvious that the extremely creative and talented chef clearly takes great pride in his craft! The combination of unique flavors, the presentation, all of it was exceptional!... More

My husband arranged a surprise dinner for me and invited some of my dear friends. They were there when we arrived, in a somewhat hidden upstairs loft. When we went up to be seated I was quite surprised indeed. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the range of appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts ordered. I took a few photos of the dinners ordered.... We went to Mombo during our stay in Portsmouth on our one-year wedding anniversary and we were very pleased with the whole package. The atmosphere is very fitting for Portsmouth, set in an old colonial building with classic wood architecture. With seating both upstairs and downstairs, there is a plenty of space. The food was absolutely excellent. Each course was... More

If you like a cozy atmosphere, consistently delectable food, live piano music and excellent service, reserve a table at Mambo's. Even our food critic of daughter (visiting from college) was extremely impressed. That never happens! My only complaint is that the restaurant's name doesn't reflect it's quaint, historic interior. It felt more like "The Hearth" at Strawberry Banke due to... More

I'm going to start with my conclusion -- great food, great atmosphere, but spotty service (which they recognized and make adjustments for in our bill unprompted). We'll return, but not before trying other restaurants in Portsmouth. We had dinner at Mombo recently for the first time, based on TripAdvisor reviews. We were seated promptly and our waiter came by to... More
