We had dinner here on Sunday, March 30, 2014 and it was one of the best dining experiences that we have ever had. We started with the roasted dates. We were given the golden pineapple desert, served with lime zest and pomegranate molasses, as a complementary pallet cleanser before we had the paella. We finished with the valhrona chocolate for... From the moment you walk up to the front door, tucked away in a small downtown Portsmouth side street, Cava exceeds most expectations. The overall ambiance is fantastic, and it would be excellent for just about any sort of dining experience, be it business, casual, or a date. The menu had a very interesting pairing of flavors and ingredients, making... More

Cava offers a wide-ranging and ever changing wine list with servers and bartenders who know their stock. The chef creates seasonally sumptuous small and medium plates based on fresh produce, local seafood and cheeses plus desserts that you really must save room to enjoy. We love sitting at a bar, talking with the bartender and those seated around us. Cava... More

This was our second trip to Cava and after experiencing the chef's menu, at the chef's bar, visiting withe chef, we moved it up to the very top of our list of favorites. Every bite felt like an adventure and we were moved to exclaim delightedly with each small plate. Portsmouth has all kinds of really terrific restaurants and this... More

This place is in my view the best restaurant in Portsmouth. It has wonderfully delicious small plates as well as "normal" entrees. The small plates are great for a light meal and/or sharing. The wine list is superb and in good summer weather, the outside patio is a great place to have a drinks and apps (and dinner!) while kabitzing... More

The food is great, unique and they're always mixing things up. The Chef's menu is the way to go if you like a little variety and the wine pairing is a great bet too. To top it off the staff is exceptional!

Cava is by far the most consistent and innovative restaurant in Portsmouth. The service is above and beyond anyone in the area. They make you feel so at home and Danny the bar manager and bartender makes the best cocktails and is so knowledgable about the wine list. Anytime I have guests in town, this is the place I take... My friend and I were looking for somewhere to eat in Portsmouth and saw how many rave reviews Cava had so we decided to give it a shot. We were really excited to try their tasting menu because it seemed like such an awesome concept and at $32/pp, we thought that was a good deal. The first plate was some... More

We've eaten here twice over the past year and both meals have been excellent! Every dish has been well prepared and beautifully presented. We are both vegetarians and (happily) found there were numerous selections from which to choose. The only negative is that prices can add up as you are eating small dishes, and to make a full meal you'll... More

We went back to Cava in December, after our first meal there last September. In the fall, we ate outside under the heaters, which was a wonderful experience. Cava is in an alley with lots of brick and passers by. The food was superb and the servers were a delight: friendly and helpful and down-to-earth. People at the next table... More
