This was my third visit to this restaurant over the past couple of years. It is exquisite. Every morsel is prepared with care and the wine list is not overpriced. If you want to impress friends, bring them here. If you are a foodie come here to please yourself. When was the last time you had flash fried capers on... More

Cava's tapas-style menu creates a fun and different dining experience than most restaurants in Portsmouth. The smaller plates create an opportunity to try many different foods, which leads to a fun visit. In addition to unique tapas, Cava also provides a wine pairing menu at a reasonable price. The restaurant is small, so you either need to get lucky and... More

First time in Portsmouth, and we wanted a something unique. We stumbled upon Cava from Trip Advisor- best find ever! Our server, (can not remember his name), was very sweet and knowledgable on the wine list. We sat at the bar to watch Chef in action. Very impressive! Since we were new, we asked about other stops and eats to... More

We keep going back and every time we are greatly satisfied. On this occasion we were in NYC and drove to Portsmouth and had two glorious meals. Even at the end of restaurant week when they were probably very tired, the staff were cheerful, helpful and produced ever tasty selections. Cheers to Greg, Mike and all the others and thanks... My wife and I did the fixed price tasting menu, as well as the wine pairing. The food was great. From the first dish of beets and goat cheese all the way to the pumpkin cake for our last course. All the servings are small and I was thinking I might have to stop for a snack somewhere else after,... More

It’s unfortunate that the 4 course pre-fix fall restaurant week menu is over. Chef Sessler’s November menu features several of these dishes. The Baby beets with goat cheese were excellent. The goat cheese was so soft and creamy. The cold cider cured duck served in an elongated pea-shaped dish with pear, quinoa and pistachio was so tasty and eye appealing.... More

In the land of top seafood, we were truly taken by Cava, an epicurian delight and wonderful tapas dinning experience. Every dish (even the wine) were special for Restaurant Week. Baby beets and goat cheese with a pumpkin and cider cream sauce. Foraged mushrooms and cider cured duck with pear, quinoa and pistasio. Hake and scallop with serrano ham, bottarga... More

My honey surprised me with a dinner date to Cava, for a 7 course tapas meal and wine, at the chef's table, with Gregg-the chef and owner, and what a treat! Each course, (for us and EVERYONE ELSE IN THE PLACE) delicately prepared all the while Gregg (and John too!) chatted with us, talking about life, how the dishes were... More

I was looking for a good restaurant in Portsmouth for meeting friends who are wine officiandos and who enjoy sampling a variety of gourmet dishes. Both the wine choices and the food were excellent. We ate downstairs near the bar. It had a nice cave-like atmosphere. It was a busy weekend and we were eating early. The owner alerted me... More

Cava is a tapas/wine bar. We had winter squash soup with marshmallow and chocolate - sounds strange, tasted great. Char grilled baby octopus - amazing - super tender. Pork tenderloin was tender and seasoned really well. Lentils with the pork were tasty. And the churros for dessert were perfect, these were the best churros we've ever had. And the wine... More
