A recent trip to Hampton Beach, on our way back to Vermont we stopped for lunch. The staff were very friendly and helpful with their best recommendations, and more importantly why. I ordered the "GRILLED WATERMELON", W/Grapes, Avocado, Strawberry Pico & Crumbled Bleau Cheese & added (Grilled 1/2 Lobster well so so). My wife & son ordered the "JUST SAY... More

Clearly the Best restaurant in the Hampton Beach area. But please, dump the honey mustard and bring back the maple syrup for the bacon wrapped scallops. Service is fantastic. Everyone has great personalities. A must do.

We decided to go to 401 Tavern to watch World Cup Soccer and have dinner. We ate upstairs in the wine bar which was a very quaint setting. Our waiter Matt was new, very friendly and answered any questions we had about the menu. We started with a flatbread Greek pizza as an appetizer which was delicious. I had the... More

We had lobster pie that was out of this world delicious...and also prime rib & sirloin tips that were very, very good. Always enjoy eating here, many original specials of the day as well. Good drinks, good choices...

Great place to go with plenty of menu choices. Upstairs, a little quieter and a bit more formal but casual clothes are fine. Downstairs, two friendly bars, one larger and more of a sports crowd, the other more for quieter get togethers. Love the variety on the menu, and food is always good.

This was our first time stopping into the 401 restaurant, but it will be our last. To be fair, we never even got to try the food. My wife and I were looking for an afternoon meal on the seacoast. We saw the mixed reviews on TA but decided to go as the place we were looking to go to... More

This will be our first and last visit to this place. The inside has empty wine bottles covering most of the walls. The quarters were very tight we felt claustrophobic. This place is old with uneven floors, I was very concerned about getting out if we had to. I ordered the native baked haddock and veggies. The dinner rolls were... More

Thought I'd give this place another shot, really wanted steak tips. Not a fan. Atmosphere at the bar is fun, loud, there are TV's and your regulars. good drinks! good location for the town.

I am surprised to hear so many good reviews about the food. We had the Ruben, baked haddock, and a cheese pizza for the kids. The meat in the Ruben and fish did not seem to be fresh. In addition, the cheese on the flatbread pizza tasted like cheese wiz; plus there was more cheese then bread. To top this... More
