Loaf and Ladle was a great spot, unfortunately it has closed down and has been sold. Rumor has it, it will reopen as a restaurant sometime after renovations.

This restaurant is no longer in business. Hopefully the new tenants will do a better job! I don't know what else to say but I have to keep typing to hit the minimum

Great place low key atmosphere, excellent Sandwich, soup, chowder and salad fare. So sorry they closed the Water Street location.

It was fun place and we visited many times with various results. Tomato soup was wonderful and the breads yummy.

This place has been closed down months ago. It will probably be demolished by the new out of State owner. It was never a restaurant that I would frequent anyway. It was always rather grubby looking and not at all attractive.

I loved the place and the folks who ran it. The kids who worked there were always amusing. I suspect there is more to the story than they just decided to close. It was an Exeter landmark.

Unfortunately , the owners of this seminal Exeter landmark threw in the towel about a month ago . And called it quits , I believe maintenance costs on the building were crushing the bottom line . It is very sad .

I just passed the Loaf and Ladle Restaurant on Water St. in Exeter and there is a For Sale sign on the building. Loaf and Ladle bread can be found in stores throughout the area but the funky soup, sandwich and salad bar joint overlooking the river is no longer. If you see their bread, get some. It's great. I... A huge variety of homemade soups and chowders, along with as many choices of homemade bread! That and a nice glass of wine is all you need for a hearty lunch or a light supper. If you want more, they always have a featured casserole or two-- all delicious!

Having reviewed this previously I am compelled to say the quality associated with the Loaf and Laddle has disappeared. The food and service are mediocre at best and plain nasty at worse. What once was wonderful bread is now served stale...salad bar has been a wreck the past two or three visits. Too bad because this was once one of... More
