First visit: good food, great service

My first visit to Mad River Tavern was very positive. The menu is what you would expect from a tavern: salads, plenty of burger options, and a good variety of entree options. They also have a good selection of beer on tap. Our party of four ordered two salads, a burger, and an entree. The... read more

Ordered the pasta with pesto and my husband ordered the rib eye. My pasta was a bit overcooked and the pesto didn't have enough kick to it. His meal was better. The steak was a bit thin but cooked correctly and had decent enough flavor. Waitress was nice and prompt.

Delicious hot bread with butter, Andes candies with the check is a nice touch. Chicken Rosa was great flavor, nice kids menu. Good served quick and hot!

Stopped in for lunch on our way to do some sight seeing and were very pleased. Most got sandwiches and burgers, I got the nachos and they were as delicious as they were huge. Service was good, restaurant was clean except for dirty ketchup bottle but no big deal. Good selection for a group of people.

We have been going to the Mad River Tavern for over 25 years. We went recently and salads are now extra. The pop corn machine is gone. Food is still pretty good but it is clear that rather than raise prices things disappeared. The superburger used to have a whole portobello mushroom cap. Now it is a couple strips. Still... More

I have come to this place several times over the years, and have always enjoyed it. Great food, good people and a welcoming local atmosphere. However, the last 2 times I visited the tavern (once in April and once in June), it was phenomenal. The food seems to have a finer edge to it. It's the same comfort driven tavern... More

Food is less than good. Staff very friendly. Onion soup salty and more like what you might serve over prime rib. Blue cheese wedge salad very little bacon, chicken seemed like it was packaged. Chewy and slightly under cooked. Not hot like off a grill at all. Steak tips ok. Corn (not in season) was puckered like it was cooked,... More

We discovered this place when we were looking for property to build a house for our retirement. Our innkeeper suggested it. We walked in on Halloween and it was filled with locals and carved pumpkins (this was 15 years ago - no more carved pumpkins). Atmosphere terrific, food good - except for the onion soup - the best I have... More

Right off highway, easy on and off. Food was good but not great, nothing special to set it apart or distinguish it from any other pub/ bar that serves food.

I did not go in expecting much but the food here was very good. We started with the fried Calamari which was some of the best Calamari that I have ever had. We ordered a slightly larger salad that came with our seafood newburg which was just an OK salad. I prefer the darker greens to the iceberg that comes... More
