There is little left of old Vegas but for a great experience, try the Golden Steer. Don't let the tired strip mall location a block off the strip put you off. Inside you will find an old western style bar, red wallpaper, leather banquets, a friendly greeter who will tell you about Sinatra, Deano, Sammy, DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe, among... More

Great food and drinks in a very cozy lounge atmosphere. My rare steak was medium but it was rectified after a brief mention. Loved this place.

Arriving at the parking lot of the Golden Steer you may start to wonder what you've gotten yourself into, but upon walking through the doors of this exquisitely preserved 1958 restaurant in downtown Las Vegas, you are immediately transported back to a time when the Rat Pack, Elvis, Joe DiMaggio, Marilyn Monroe and others dined here with such frequency that... Got a nice Groupon deal worth $60. Just by looking at the price online prior to visit, I knew the $60 would cover maybe, maybe half the cost of food. The restaurant is off the Las Vegas strip on Sahara avenue. With the help of Google Maps, no problem finding the place. From the look on the outside, it doesn't... More

Had a $60. Groupon and mentioned it when I made the reservation. (They asked for the coupon immediately, but did not take it off the bill. I had to point it out to them and have the bill re-done.) Appetizer: Calamari was one of the worst I have had in Vegas--overdone, rubbery, no tenacles, etc. The Alaskan Salmon, poached, was... More

Having retired to Las Vegas 5 years ago, I looked forward, with great anticipation of finally having dinner at the Golden Steer. Living on the total opposite side of town was the only reason we had not tries it sooner. My mouth watered as I read their boasts of having the best steaks in Las Vegas since 1958. Well, what... Complete with red booths, tuxedoed waiters, table side preparation of Caesar Salad and Bananas Foster! Strong martinis, cheese toast and great steaks. What more could you want. Hidden in a strip mall off Sahara. Full of locals. Don't apply for a job here. I think most of the staff have been there for 30 years or more!

Had heard of this place before, so decided to give it a try. King Crab Cocktail was excellent, but the Prime Rib was just so-so. Service was spotty at best. Had to ask for the wine list three times. The old school atmosphere was fun but not enough to make up for the mediocre food and service.

The Golden Steer is an elegant steak house that retains the appeal it has had since The Rat Pack and other well known celebrities made it their hangout. The food is excellent, and the service by formally dressed wait persons, many who have been at the Golden Steer for years, is attentive and friendly. This is not on the Strip... More

This is the most wonderful, Las Vegas old-school steakhouse I've ever been to! You'd never know it was really nice inside, based on its strip mall location right off Las Vegas Blvd. at Sahara. As I recall, there was a big golden steer on the sign outside, but driving by recently, I didn't see it anymore. Either way, although this... More
