El Sombrero gone!

Went to the new El Sombrero Saturday eve. What a disappointment. Only thing same is name. Over priced and poor quality food. Definitely not like the homey Mexican dishes from the old place. Server seemed to be a shoe salesman on loan. Had NO idea how to take orders or serve even though there were... read more

A big group of family and friends traveled to Vegas last weekend for various celebrations, including my cousin's birthday. My cousin is gluten and dairy-free, so I wanted to find a restaurant offering regular dishes (no special menus) that could accommodate those restrictions. We were staying downtown, so when I saw the reviews for El Sombrero, we decided to give... More

The newly reopened El Sombrero is quite different from the previous establishment. Although the same small space exists, the menu is quite different, and quite good. It might best be termed "Latin Fusion". The service is excellent and the wine list quite good. Because of the smallish space, noise can be distracting at times. A nice feature is the available... Went here with a large group. had the Tamal Pollo and the watermelon Sangria. Food was exceptional! Perfect blending of spices and the salsa is some of the best I have ever had. The Chef even stopped by to ask how it was. With a large group, everyone had hot food and every one loved the Sangria. Will say it... More

After several nights of chain food, we were very pleased to find a local Mexican eatery whose food and ambience were above expectation, with very good prices. Our party of 5 was in town for a convention. Outside, El Sombrero is on a sketchy looking street and has the appearance of a dive, but it has off-street parking. Inside it... More

We’ve found some really nice Mexican restaurants in Vegas. This is not one of them. No atmosphere. Not that I go for the Velvet Bull Fighter but something that says where you are. The deco was sparse at best. It’s bright but cold. The place is very loud which is why I notice the sparseness. There was a loud talker... More

We just learned that the 70 year old El Sombrero had reopened under new ownership, so we decided to give it a try. Not only was the entire restaurant refurbished, but the chef has included several new items that are absolutely delicious. I had the chicken tamale, and Lisa had the rib eye steak. Both were excellent. I highly recommend... More

The El Sombrero has been completely remodeled and has a spectacular new menu to match. We tried the chicken mole, the halibut, sirloin steak and chicken enchiladas. All of the dishes were excellent. Decent wines. This has immediately become my favorite downtown restaurant.
