We just learned that the 70 year old El Sombrero had reopened under new ownership, so we decided to give it a try. Not only was the entire restaurant refurbished, but the chef has included several new items that are absolutely delicious. I had the chicken tamale, and Lisa had the rib eye steak. Both were excellent. I highly recommend... More

The El Sombrero has been completely remodeled and has a spectacular new menu to match. We tried the chicken mole, the halibut, sirloin steak and chicken enchiladas. All of the dishes were excellent. Decent wines. This has immediately become my favorite downtown restaurant.

A definite must if you love authentic homemade Mexican cuisine. The restaurant has been reborn into a very modern style venue with just 43 seats - and be sure to grab one soon Don't miss the chicken mole' Unbelievable! And the server Jose keeps the conversation flowing nicely - and the cervezas too!

If you like Mexican food, don't miss El Sombrero. It's the real thing, all the way through. It's in a funky and un-scenic part of downtown, not far from the county jail. If I ever go to Vegas without having a meal at El Sombrero, well, you can put me in a box.

Sadly, this long time Vegas restaurant has now closed. 64 years of family-run business with a lot of history. We will miss this place.

Cute little place with too expensive and bad food. Huevos Rancheros $10 for poorly cooked beans and cold pasty dark red rice. Must be new owner, I have eaten here three times over many years and it was never this bad before.

Not just any Mexican restaurant, has alot of history. Actually Old Vegas`oldests restaurant if I am not mistaken. Serving New Mexican Cuisine. Good meal to get you warmed up for your night out in Vegas. Good Burritos and Enchiladas for $10-$13.

It is a hole in the wall .. But don't let that scare you off !! The best food we have come across ... Good chips and salsa and the best huevos rancheros .. Ask for the green and red both ,, beans and rice were good also

This is not a restaurant to go to if you want glitz and glamour. It is a family owned place for multiple generations. Everything is delicious. But the salsa is the thing. Once you try it you'll crave it. I like the chunky style, my husband the smooth one. We are locals here in Las Vegas so we've tried most... More

It is so small that people in their business suits line up outside beginning at about noon on weekdays. They've been in business here for about 40 years. Save room for the sopapillas!
