Surprising lunch spot for client meeting

The restaurant has an inauspicious front with funky signage. It does have a substantial parking lot with FREE spots for patrons. Walking in the front door, you see seating for about 60. It's clean, modern, and welcoming. Authentic menu and friendly service. The lunch was great (they serve... read more

Went to a birthday party at El Sombrero with my girlfriends mexican family and was very disappointed with the food. It was very plain and seriously lacked the spice that I expected. Seems like they made it really bland and I will never go back there. The service was slow as well and the cost was more than expected.

So, when we drove up, we thought, WOW, this is a real 'hole in the wall' restaurant. We went there because a cousin recommended it. What a wonderful surprise !! The restaurant was clean, and had great decor. What a pleasurable dining experience. The waiter was great, and had a good sense of humor. We felt like we'd been there... More

This place literally came recommended by someone who overheard us talking about Mexican food and the lack of quality (not commercial feeling) choices in Vegas. It's closer to the old strip/Freemont so it didn't seem all that nice on the outside but we were impressed when we went inside. The food was generally very good but 3 people in the... More

This is now the El Sombrero Bistro. The key word in that sentence is bistro. Gone is the cute, kitschy Mexican place and with it the food. They now serve upscale, bistro type Mexican food. The food wasn't bad, it just was not what we were looking for. If you are looking for Mom and Pop homemade Mexican food, this... More

Yes, there are new owners and a major remodel has taken place, but if you want fantastic Mexican Food this is a must!! While the food may not be traditional the basics are there, with a modern twist of flavor that is fantastic! We have been 3 times, the service has always been good, very helpful wait staff who have... More

Haven't been there since it changed hands, but I've looked at the menu on their website. It's way more expensive now, and more yuppified. No traditional tacky sombreros on the wall, which is a very bad sign. Next time I'm in town I'll try it and hope that it's still great, but it seems highly unlikely that it could be... More

Went to the new El Sombrero Saturday eve. What a disappointment. Only thing same is name. Over priced and poor quality food. Definitely not like the homey Mexican dishes from the old place. Server seemed to be a shoe salesman on loan. Had NO idea how to take orders or serve even though there were only 12 patrons in the... More

A big group of family and friends traveled to Vegas last weekend for various celebrations, including my cousin's birthday. My cousin is gluten and dairy-free, so I wanted to find a restaurant offering regular dishes (no special menus) that could accommodate those restrictions. We were staying downtown, so when I saw the reviews for El Sombrero, we decided to give... More

The newly reopened El Sombrero is quite different from the previous establishment. Although the same small space exists, the menu is quite different, and quite good. It might best be termed "Latin Fusion". The service is excellent and the wine list quite good. Because of the smallish space, noise can be distracting at times. A nice feature is the available...
