This was always one of our favorite places to eat in Carson City, but sadly it is closed forever. The owner did not want to continue, and it is for sale. We are heartbroken.

The rest of the reviews are correct--Thurman's Ranch House is an OLD restaurant. Its decor has not been changed in years, it is dark, and the tables are for large parties. That said, the food is very good, the price reasonable (I have attached a menu from August, 2013), and the dinner appears to be Basque style, but does not... More

The place is a little long in the tooth, but food was ok. The prime rib was flavorful and cooked correctly. Maybe a little tough, but not tough enough to ruin the experience. They have a nice touch on their menu with a "lite" offering of the regular meals. This allows average eaters to have a menu item without some... More

My husband and I ate here one night for dinner during our recent trip to Carson City and Virginia City. I had seen this restaurant as we drove by, checked out some reviews and it sounded good. I like basque or family style restaurants and this restaurant did not disappoint. Our server (name unknown) was a young lady who had... More

Driving by Thurman's, the ramshackle, paint-worn, 'old West'-style building and the parking lot either empty or full of pickup trucks would make one wonder what quality the food would be. Entering through an old-fashioned (squeaky) screen door into a semi-dusk environment, where the hostess/waitress appears out of the semi-dark adds to the feeling of wonder. However, the food was good,... More

We have seen the vehicles parked and said this HAS got to be a good place to eat. It weasn't. Everything tasted like lamb. My wife ordered a steak and I a fish dish. Both had a greazy bland after taste of lamb. I guess everyone with kids, ( children ) was there for the "family value." Most everyone had... More

Cozy atmosphere with excellent food. Whenever we order two dinners, we usually have enough to take home for at least two more dinners!!! The ribs are outstanding. Be sure to ask for Kay. She is a wonderful server who has been there forever and remembers clients by name even after long absenses.

We just went there for dinner last night with a 2 year old and a 7 year old and for the price to feed the whole family was great. The food was delicious. I got the rib-eye and my husband got the prime rib and we were very happy with it. We will definitely go back.

As others have said, the food is pretty good. It's true family style dining. I especially like the Thursday luch special Prime Rib Sandwich with soup or salad and fries. You won't be hungry at dinner. However, it's not a clean dining room. There is often a musty smell to the place. The carpet is old and worn and the... More

Lots of courses.Everything served "Family Style". Start out with a glass of wine, french bread, homemade split -pea soup with ham ,(Yum!) and your choice of rack of lamb, or steak, prime rib, salmon, huge shrimp, or other seafood dishes. Several vegtable dishes included also. Always refill your wine glass! Then finish off your meal with ice cream! Everything included... More
