Great comfort food in a cozy atmosphere

We were looking for a tasty meal in a local spot (no chains) and were very pleased to find this neat cafe. We were lucky to be there on a Friday, as I understand that's the only day it's open in the evenings. Great food (especially the mashed potatoes and the onion rings) at a cheap price. The atmosphere is very nice. We love trying off the path places whenever we are in other cities and this place fit the bill. We had a big breakfast with everything you would hope for. The eggs were scrambled in butter! MMMM!!! Would go back again when we are in Lincoln.

My family and I visited on a Friday at lunch rush, and found the "Lincoln Hunger Rescue Squad" --the servers, and their shirts (which can be purchased there) do say that-- serving a full complement of hungry Lincolnites. We were greeted and seated even before we had a chance to check out the firefighter gear on the walls (it's built... More

I arrived Sunday and found a line (always a good sign, if there's no line on the weekend - don't eat there) but was sat quickly. The food was tasty, steak benedict or me and a waffle for my friend, and it was cheap but of high quality and served quickly with a smile. I'd love to come back, this... More

Great breakfasts - especially their potato platters - several choices or build your own. Prices are reasonable, coffee is excellent. Staff is efficient and firendly. The atmosphere is, as expected, of an old firestation. Not fancy, just very good. I have not had lunch or dinner there, but from what others tell me they are also very good.

The Engine House Café serves a unique take on great American favorites, including a number of variations on their signature Eggs Benedict and one of the largest pancakes I've ever seen in a restaurant, all for far less than one would expect at a comparable chain restaurant. The waitresses are friendly, attentive, and (politically incorrect as it may be to... More

I went to the Engine house after my daughter told me about it. She goes to UNL. I had a very good meal and the counter service was great. Loved the bread, not homemade but a soft bakery bread. Great history befind tbe location. They have done a good job presenting it.

Our hotel recommended this spot for breakfast and I am so glad they did! It's charming and has great options for all sorts of taste buds in the morning. The portions are very healthy for the price you pay, and everything that came out of the kitchen looked delicious! I recommend the eggs benedict! Seating is somewhat limited, so prepare... More

We never miss going here when we're in the area. The potato platter is a favorite as is the chicken fried steak. The staff is efficient and friendly - have only had one bad experience but not enough to knock off the rating.

My hubby brought me here for breakfast on a Saturday. There was a line out the door, but our wait was only about 15 minutes and totally worth it. I've never eaten eggs benedict, I usually go for pancakes but my hubby said to try the eggs benedict because everyone says its the best. So glad I did! The special... More
