Great Break on the Track

We used Lochmara as a mid-point destination for our walk. It was a great break and on a fine day offers heaps of activities. Staff were friendly and most accommodating.

We took friends on our boat to lunch here. We all ordered the fish chowder and oh how disappointed we all were. $24 a smallish bowl which had no flavor and virtually no seafood in it at all. Mostly white sauce with a little potato. In contrast we are having the same today at Jester House by Mapua - absolutely... More

We visited on a weekday in termtime, so it was relatively quiet. The staff were lovely and the coffee and cakes excellent. Outside Lochmara is full of interesting things to see but so is the café - the photo wall of the place being built, the wall of handprints, the art - so it's a good place to relax.

We had spent the day kayaking, fishing and walking and walked nearly an hour to get to this restaurant. We were really looking forward to a good meal hopefully featuring a good range of the lovely seafood the region is so well known for. We were very disappointed therefore to only find farmed salmon on the menu and really the... More

What more can you say about a café perched on the edge of the water like this one is. Staff friendly and even gave our children some bread to feed the resident little fish off the wharf! Watch out for plenty of wasps about but they are not aggressive.

After spending four days boating around Queens Charlotte and Tory Channel we spent our last night moored here. Very friendly staff. They couldn't do enough for us. Nice walk around the bird sanctuary. Meals were absolutely delicious and of very large portions. This was our pick of the sounds. Real value for money. Although we didn't have our children or... What I love about this place is its superb service with regards to mooring. It seems to be the only lodge on the Sounds that we have been to which has an attendant at the jetty. This is a fabulous, first class service that makes a big difference to boating visitors and has to be commended. We were too late... More

I visited here several times over a two week period in January and have to say its one if the nicest places I've visited, considering its combination of friendly and efficient service, fabulous food and a great location to share drinks, food and fun with friends. There is a buzz around the place as children enjoy the animal tour, or... More

Upon arriving at the cafe we were greeted by loads of people enjoying the outdoors. We were surprised that considering the amount of people there were, we got our coffees quickly. Was so relaxed we decided to stay a while and have a coldy and chips which were great. Would highly recommend and hope to return for a proper meal... More
