Not much of a line on March 30th 2014, since there were snow flurries and gusty winds. I was surprised anybody was here at Big Dipper Ice Cream in Missoula, Montana, given the chilly weather. Thelma tells me it is a popular stop and there are often very long lines awaiting the specialty, home-made ice creams. I'm from Oregon where... More

I can't understand the fever behind making this the #1 'restaurant' (of which it's not - for out of Towners, it's a walk up ice cream place). I haven't enjoyed any of the flavors I've tried. They all seem like they would be good but it all tastes the same. No bold flavors. Very muted. Vanilla is good. I've worked... More

Unless the weather is 40 below zero with howling Hellgate winds, you'll probably see people lined up at Big Dipper, and there's a reason. It's simply the best ice cream in Missoula. Prices are steeper than those for bland soft-serve at chain places, but are reasonable for what you get here, which is real ice cream in a variety of... More

Going to the Big Dipper Ice Cream shop in Missoula is a true experience. You wait in a line to order through a window. They have their own unique flavors which makes the experience worth the while. You eat at tables next to the parking lot. They are open in the winter so I imagine you eat in your car... More

Any trip to Missoula should include this hand brewed ice cream. From Mango jalapeno to Moose Drool beer (yes these are ice cream flavors). Not to be missed in season are the tangarine sorbet, huckleberry sorbet; but my all time favorites are the mocha chip and cardomom.

cardamon and coconut - excellent choices! Easy walk from many locations around Missoula. They used to have a traveling ice cream truck, have not seen it in a while. good price from their 5th St. location. A little too expensive in the grocery store...

Best Ice Cream in the world right in the middle of downtown Missoula! Close to the river and in the University area this is Missoula's Place for Ice cream!

The Big Dipper serves homemade, hand crafted ice cream at a reasonable price. They serve unusual flavors as specials, as well as traditional flavors. Imagine Scottish ale flavored ice cream, or Mexican chocolate with cayenne. I love the Big Dipper and you will too!

I've lived my whole life in Missoula and never tried Big Dipper before so thought I'd go and finally see what all the fuss is. First off, the service was good and I had a very helpful gal taking my order. She was patient while I chose which ice cream to get as they do have a nice selection. As... More

I love the green tea ice cream but they taste average like any other ice cream I've tasted. Nothing to shout home about.
