We had read the other TripAdvisor reviews, so went "forearmed". My wife had the shrimp, which had a nice flavor, a little spice, was well prepared and tasty (I had a few tastes). I had beef tacos and beef enchiladas. When I asked that they be "spicy", I was told to just apply more salsa. The "salsa" tasted like jarred,... More

Mabel's has long been our favorite Mexican meal in the Billings area. Auithentic, flavorful, large portions and reasonable cost. The restaurant is small and often fills in the evening. Mabel and her husband run the place and always seem to remember us. Service varies depending on how busy and how much help is available, but is always friendly and the... More

Mexican being my favorite cuisine, I found this to be a real mixed-bag - based on three visits now. The meals themselves are well-prepared and generally very fresh and good, although as a person who likes very hot and spicy food I continually found that they are reticent to ramp up my meal no matter what I say. Unfortunately, the... More

A modest unassuming building accross from the railroad tracks in Laurel Montana is not where you would expect to find a good Mexican restaurant-- not Tex-Mex, but Mexico away from the border states. Prices are good, food is good and this has a very informal down town feel. A favorite of local railroad and refinery workers. Unassuming decor but good... More

Simple surroundings, full portions, the refried beans taste great, and friendly family-run operation

Not only was the chili great but also when I asked Mabel's added so much pepper we're still talking about it. Great!

The carne asada is outstanding. The pork chops with gravy are also fabulous. These two dishes are some of the best food you will eat. They are also fairly large portions.

I love Mexican food and my husband is a great enough guy to take me to my favorite Mexican restaurants often. As i tell him (often) I could eat Mexican anytime, anywhere. Of course, the best is in Mexico...that's where i learned what real Mexican food is. Well we are far north of that border and currently in the winter... More

Our family group of 15 had our end of hike meal at Mabel's. All the food was delicious, beautifully presented, and, given our size, quickly served. There was no alcohol but BYOB was welcomed with a gas station convenience store right next door which had beer and wine.

Service was good. Beans were good. Chicken enchilada was fair. Beef pieces and the accompanying flour tortillas were burned in places. Some beef pieces were tough. The enchilada sauce tasted more like barbecue sauce. In fact, this tasted less like Mexican than most Mexican food we have eaten throughout the western states. Wouldn't eat there again.
