The only thing good about this place are the chips.

This is not authentic. If you want authentic you have to go to Kansas City. sorry folks. I think people from St. Joseph like it because they've not been to a great authentic Mexican restaurant.

Having been to Barbosa ' s Castillo in Saint Joseph Missouri at their original location years ago, we decided to try the location on Frederick Street as the original is closed on Mondays. I don't know when I have been more disappointed in a restaurant. No complementary chips and salsa. Filthy surroundings. Our server had on a filthy apron. And... More

We are not familiar with St. Joe so this restaurant was recommended to us. The only nice thing I can say is the staff is very friendly. The food was very bland it was lacking flavor. One of my items was a cheese enchilada that tasted very similar to a grilled cheese sandwich. Take plenty of cash with you. For... More

This restaurant had a very poor atmosphere and even worse service. The food was very medicore and did not settle well in my stomach. The whole place needs to change 👎👎

We sat down and I immediately realized we had to pay for our chips. Strike one. We get the chips and cheese sauce and the chips are the texture of a taco salad bowl. That could be their claim to fame. I then looked at the menu. There was little selection and everything was about $13 a plate. Not pleased,... More

I love going to Barbosa's every chance that I get. Nacho chips with the beefy cheese sauce is a good way to start off the meal but unless you have more than 2 in your group you may have to take some home. I have never been disappointed by anything I have ordered and eaten their. I love the combination... More

A coworker and I recently spent some time in St. Joseph. We tried to eat at local establishments we won't see near our homes. Our fourth night here, we opted to try Barbosa's on Frederick since it was very close to our hotel. We sat down and were quickly greeted by our friendly server. We ordered drinks and reviewed the... I'm originally from St. Joseph, so whenever my husband and I are back, we HAVE to go to Barbosa's. On our most recent trip back, I ordered the nachos and they were just as wonderful as I remember. Barbosa's has a different style of chips and I've never had anything quite like them at any other restaurant. In previous visits,... More

We were attracted to the building and that is a multi generational Hispanic, family owned establishment. Having the chance to eat inside was the draw. We took a day trip to St. Joe nearly one year ago today. We only stopped by because we thought maybe our grandson was hungry and we didn't want fast food. We ordered the chips... More

So glad we "had" to stop in St. Joseph on our road trip, and it just "had" to be about lunch time. Love this place, and only get there every few years. This time, I brought a cooler and bought a dozen extra frozen enchiladas to bring home. Yes, you have to pay extra for the chips and salsa. I... More
