I am biased so far as this pub is concerned since I live in the village but when you can get a sunday lunch of this quality and exceptional value for money I must crow about it. At home you cannot cook such a large piece of Beef unless you want sandwiches for the next 2 weeks. The perfectly rare... More

I was expecting more after reading previous reviews. .................. The food was poorly presented and not particularly inspired despite an enormously long menu.

Having had a nice business lunch here we stopped off for an evening meal on our way to the ferry port. What a disappointing second visit. Friendly greeting but we were then told that quote "the chef is off" so no evening menu but we could chose from the blackboard i.e. anything pre-prepared that they could throw in the microwave.... What a pity your visit wasn't successful ! As the proprietors of The Black Dog we were away on our well deserved holiday our dear friends look after our pub for us to the very best of their abilities .as to the fact you were in the dining room with a large dog as the rest of the pub was... More

found this little pub whilst driving to another venue. serendipity! pretty (masses of flowers), quaint oldy worldy, and best of all, nice food ( sandwiches, pizzas, suet puddings, fishcakes, baked camembert etc) and very nice people. we will make a bee line to it, whenever in area.

I visit the Black Dog semi-regularly with friends on Wed or Thurs nights, and the odd weekend day/evening. Proprietors are welcoming and provide a friendly local atmosphere in this longstanding village pub. Beer is always good, especially when they run beer tasting evenings. Food is consistently of a high quality, often phenomenally so - the primarily self-taught chef is creative... More

A lovely looking pub from the outside and interesting on the inside with lots of wonderful pictures to look at and a large varied menu. We ordered the Beef Burmese Curry (they got the recipe on holiday) but unfortunately there was only a small portion left so the landlady suggested that we have it as a starter between the 3... More

This would be a great place to just drop in for a drink, a snack (as we did) - or a fabulous meal as others were doing. It is not "up itself" like one or two other nearby hostelries. All in all a great find, we will be back

Booking a table here in advance is recommended to avoid disappointment. I tend to opt for the Rib Eye Steak with Pepper Sauce and Chips and did so this time as usual but I was looking with envy at my wife's very generous portion of Sea Bass Fillets and her cousin's heavenly scented Burmese Beef Curry. My Rib Eye was... More

The Black Dog is an interesting pub, old fashioned and with a room full of black and white movie shots. The staff was really friendly. The menu was rich, perhaps a bit too big. The food was of good quality, traditional food as you would expect. Their outdoor area is at the front facing the village church, so it was... More

We popped in The Black Dog on the way home from my daughters graduation. We had seen it having passed many times and had always thought it looked nice. The menu was not big but there was plenty of variety which to be honest I prefer as it saves numerous toss ups between dishes. The food itself was very good... More
