The food is decent and the atmosphere is okay, too, but you can hit or miss with the level of service and friendliness of the staff. I rate the chain average because of the level of service. You can get warm and friendly service at times and not so nice service at other times.

El Maguey is super cheap & super fast. It is definitely a noisy place as there are ALWAYS large groups there for dinner.

We went here for dinner and had a very nice meal. I am from Texas so I have had my share of Mexican food in a variety of dishes. I have never had arroz con pollo (chicken with rice) like this and it was delicious. Fluffy rice covered with big pieces of grilled chicken topped with a blanco cheese sauce.... More

Nothing outstanding to recommend on the menu but if you and the family are in the mood you can get something to please everyone who likes Mexican. All of them are the same when it comes to menu and decor. Notice the hand-carved benches and ask where they got them if you want to buy one for out or indoor... More

Awesome inexpensive food with great service. Lunch specials are great, and tasty. You need to try this one for yourself. Thumbs up..

if you are looking for inexpensive, basic Mexican food, then this is your place. I've never lived in Texas or Mexico, so I don't know about perfect Tex-Mex or perfect Mexican, but for a midwesterner looking for our perception of Mexican food, then this is the place. And the price is very reasonable. The decor looks just like 99% of... More

I have lived in Texas for the last 30 years this is the worst food I have ever had. I was very disappointed and sad that I wasn't going to be able to find adequate Mexican food in this area. I have found it just not at El Maguey, this place is just bad.

People of St. Charles county, this is not REAL Mexican food, it's tex-mex. it's average at best. The beef enchiladas are very bland and have no seasoning. Most of the dishes are average and taste like they were frozen then thawed and reheated before serving. The margaritas are very good and the waitstaff is very nice. I've live most of... More
