Good food, ambient atmosphere

I had lunch in this restaurant with a friend who lives in Kansas City. I had the bone narrow appetiser (!) and the rib eye that was excellent. They have a nice wine list too.

Beautiful restaurant in reconverted building in up and coming neighborhood. Staff was very friendly and there is a wide variety of selections on the menu. Food was excellent. My rabbit gnocchi was top-notch, flavorful and not too rich. Nice clam chowder as well. Extensive, extensive wine list. High end but not stuffy. Will return most definitely.

The prices would indicate "fine dining" however the Food was very average to poor and expensive, $32.00 for a 4inch square of fish is ridiculous!! Very skimpy portions and not well presented!

Chef Micheal Smith has a way of expressing his love of food into an excellence culinary experience. The menu is always fresh and locally seasonal. Their wine selection is paring genius. Ambiance is spectacularly simple yet warm. My favorite is when they host a local gardener in with their product.... and Michael creates several dishes with that item. Amazing!

I always look forward to going to Michael Smith restaurant. This time I took a business associate from St. Louis. The food was fantastic and the service excellent. We both started with the orange/beet salad and it was perfection. The main course was delivered timely and we both had the special, Italian fish. It was light and flavor beautifully. We... More

Prepare your booty and your wallet for the wonders of the Michael Smith restaurant. You better make reservations because otherwise you'll be eating your duck feet and frog legs on the street. They don't have time to play 20 questions on how long the wait is going to be. It was busy in the sense that many wealthy families were... More

We had a baby with us fro a family birthday party. They put us in a very nice private room. The food was great and everyone enjoyed the wide variety. A little expensive, but worth splurging on every once in awhile.

I'm a "foodie" and was taken in by multiple James Beard awards. Unfortunately, the awards were years ago and it's clear they are no longer deserved. Dishes are not creative and tired. Food is prepared without inspiration, creativity or soul. A fois gras dish was served that should never have left the kitchen - it was melted down to where... More

My husband and I recently went to Michael Smith to celebrate his birthday. Having recently moved to the KC area from Chicago, we have been really spoiled with the great culinary options that Chicago has to offer. I must say that our experience at Michael Smith was on par with some of the best restaurants in Chicago! The restaurant is... More

When you have an elegant dinner in mind, Michael Smith should be your first thought in Kansas City. With an intimate dining room, the colors and views are muted to encourage focus on your company and the culinary delights at your disposal. We came for a dinner with family, ages 14-84, and spent over 3 hours enjoying our food, wine,... More
