Thin and Crispy

Know going in that Winsteads' patties are thin and crispy so order a double. I enjoy the tuna salad. Good fries and fountain drinks. Great prices for a family. Years ago I remember the giant sundae that my kids would share!

Make sure and get the grilled onions on your burger. Not your typical fat boring burger - thin and a little crispy. Onion rings are superb. It's a diner so don't expect the Ritz but the burger is worth the trip.

This place opened in 1940 when I lived nearby on Rockhill Road. I live in New Hampshire now, but I get to KC from time to time and I always have at least one meal here. I ate lunch there last week and it was as good as ever. Very nostalgic. Had a single with all the extras, a salad... More

This is where Kansas City took their dates for as long as it has stood. If you walk in, you can probably hear people around you talking about how their grandparents had a first date here. I've always liked the cheeseburger with grilled onions and chocolate malt. Make this the end of an afternoon at the nearby Nelson Atkins Museum... More

Maybe you have to be from KC to really love Winstead's, but we are and we do. Great burgers and shakes. Best onion rings in KC!!!! They also serve breakfast and we love eating there. It's a KC original.

The hamburger was so overcooked, it was crisp and very dry. The fries were soggy. Instead of lettuce on the burger, there was kale, also limp and soggy.

This is as close to the old time soda fountain/cafe as you can get. Good atmosphere and good food. Been here several times, want to get back asap.

A fifties themed diner where you can get a great burger and skyscraper ice cream shake! My kids loved the stack of onion rings and jukebox too! When my twins wanted to dance a little, they were not discouraged at all! Love this place!

As a creature of habit, once I find a good breakfast spot, I return. When I was here in 2011 (you can read my review, nothing has changed) I focused on pancakes. This time around I did the breakfast special. Loved it. Your cannot go wrong. The unlimited coffee of course was the best part. I also got a tuna... More

Came from StL to see a former roommate in OPKS and was happy to see the old familiar tower at Winstead's (since 1940) at 103rd and Metcalf. The steakburger with cheese (not pre-made) and all the fixings along with the thick chocolate shake was just as good as it was years ago. Brought back good memoirs too. Introduced by husband...
