I grew up in Kansas City, and so I have a special place in my heart for Winstead's, because I had many a childhood meal there. Thus, when in Kansas City on a business trip, I was excited to drop by the Plaza location. I left disappointed. The restaurant is falling apart: booths were torn and broken, the carpet was... More

Winstead's is a throwback to the 50's diner. Great burgers, onion rings, malts and shakes. The place is clean and the waitstaff quick and courteous. One of my go-to places when I'm in the area and looking for a meal at a reasonable price.

Winstead's, just off the Plaza, is the place to go for a late-night after-movie snack with friends, especially on a Saturday night when everything else is crowded with a long wait for a table. Such was our predicament last weekend. After trying a couple of places, we walked into Winstead's and although it was busy, they had a table for... More

Winstead's continues to do what they do best...make delicious cheeseburgers and shakes. Enjoyed a meal at Winstead's before venturing down to the Plaza to the view the lights. Totally impressed that you can order a double cheeseburger for $3.25 and and have a nice order of fries for $1.75 more. Plus, a fresh made strawberry shake? Golden! Finally, one of... More

The food was good, good choices, the waitstaff was excellent--made it a fun place to eat! We enjoyed the atmosphere as much as the food!

This is a place that time has passed by. Some may find the classic feel charming, but I think it is just tired and worn out. There a better options for burgers in Kansas City that are more interesting and trendy. But if you are with your children and looking for a quick bite (but not fast food) near the... More

Burgers were dry and squished. Fries were room temperature and flavorless. The food alone would have been three stars. Not horrible but not good either. The service on the other hand was absolutely terrible. The waitress was obviously annoyed to be there. Took mutiple reminders to get all of our order (3 burgers, 2 half and half fries, 2 Cokes,... This is very affordable and was a lot of fun. It's not luxurious, it's a diner. But service was great and friendly, and burgers were very tasty. When they bring out the "skyscraper" shake (which was very good), they all come over and sing a little song including a tambourine, I thought this was great. I actually thought a single... More
