I totally botched up reservations at a different place down the street and was without a table. The original restaurant suggested Grunauer as a back up and holy cow we loved it. It wouldn't have been a place we would have chosen but the service was wonderful/knowledgable, food was outstanding and building was super cool. Go try it! Only downfall... More

Everything about this place was awesome. Service, food, and atmosphere. Everything was homemade, perfectly cooked fresh to order. My wife had the Hungarian Goulash, and I had a beef shoulder special. There was absolutely nothing to dislike. We will definitely return!!

This restaurant is a gem located just north of Union Station on the other side of the tracks between Lidia's Italian Restaurant and Jack Fiorella's so it is in good company. These restaurants are in a building called the Freight House, which is built in 1887. When you walk in, you can feel the charm of the old building. We... More

We started our evening by stopping at Grunauer for drinks and an appetizer. My wife and I both enjoyed a proper Austrian Hefeweizen poured in the appropriate glass. We also ordered a pretzel and mustard, which was actually two pretzels, and seemed very generous. As we had plans for dinner already, we did not have an opportunity to further sample... More

Although I've lived in Los Angeles for many years, I grew up in Kansas City and am always surprised at how "cool" the city has gotten whenever I return. Grunauer definitely helps up the cool factor. From the second you walk in, this place is special. The interior is beautiful, the bar is inviting, the service was stellar and the... More

I had done some research before our trip to KC and had specifically chosen to have dinner at Grunauer's based on reviews and the photos on the website. It lived up to our expectations and FAR surpassed them! I would try to eat here once a week if we lived in KC! The rye bread on the tray brought before... More

I had never tried a German/Austrian restaurant before and this one did not disappoint. I had the Hofbrau Dunkel which was a wonderful beer. I'm not sure the sausage that I had with sauerkraut but that was also very good. The Jager Schnitzel I had was fantastic. Everything I had I had no complaints on and have since been recommending... I am a youngish single women traveling alone, popped in at five thirty or so after the WWI museum closed. Had the Kasesespatzle, which basically is the result of the best Mac and cheese you've ever had and tiny crispy onion rings having a long dirty weekend in Vienna. Absolw delicious. Was able to order from the full menu while... More

My husband and I are so glad we found Grunauer on our most recent visit to Kansas City. We had lunch there twice, and have told many friends about the delicious food and excellent service. The bandnudeln is an inspired blend of flavors, and the house-smoked salmon appetizer is to die for. The servers seem to genuinely care about going... More

I ate here for the first time on this trip. Wow! I had the Jäger Schnitzel Vom Schwein with a side of sauteed spinach and finished it off with an Apple Strudel that was the best I've ever eaten. You can eat indoors or outside on the patio (my choice). This will become a regular stop on my future trips... More
