The Granddaddy of KC Barbeque

I have only experienced three barbeque restaurants in Kansas City but it appears as if Arthur Bryant's is the most popular. This is based on the photos of famous people on the walls and the number of clueless tourists and embarrassing foodies crammed into the place on a late Saturday afternoon. If... read more

I am by no means a BBQ person. The recommendation to go to Arthur Bryant's came from a lady in the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. My friend wanted to get real KC BBQ, so we took the short hike to Arthur Bryant's. Clearly there is plenty of food for two people with one pulled pork sandwich. My friend loved it... More

We went for lunch. Portion sizes are humongous. The meats are fresh and lean. The sauce isn't overbearing, just right. The sides are a great compliment to the main dish which is the BBQ. The staff is lightning fast, so know what you want once you get in line to order. Only two presidents have eaten at this holy grail... More

Arthur Bryant's (at this location only!) is a cult classic. It is hard to pinpoint the allure, exactly, but it has something to do with the nostalgia evoked by the location and venue. The sliced meat sandwiches are excellent. Try a pork and beef combo if it is your first time, and be sure to have the fries. If you... More

Stopped in for a quick lunch at 3:30 and still a line. That's a good sign I thought. Tried the brisket and sliced pork and fresh fries. I like the fatter part of the brisket with a higher fat content, but this is the flat so it's dry, need to use the bbq sauce on it. Pork was good, nice... More

Walked in at noon and the place was crowded with, it seemed, mostly locals. Got in a long line and ordered sliced beef with fries. The meat was rather dry and the fries were soft. The portions were large, enough to share. I am from South Carolina so I prefer our vinegar based pork barbecue.

The service was great. The food was disappointing, after having heard that I had to try Arthur Bryant's BBQ. I tried the meat sampler and a bit from friends plates. It was ok. Get the burnt ends to have any flavor. The BBQ sauces were ok.
