We saw Lonnie McFadden, Mark Lowrey and Donovan Bailey here on First Fridays in January. They are fabulous entertainers, and local musicians. Lonnie came through the crowd to say hi during their break, which was great. From a classical musicians' perspective, he is an awesome trumpeter! The place was packed, with standing room only after the 4:30 start. The servers... More

If you enjoy Jazz, great energy and being around other lovers of jazz, you will enjoy the Phoenix. It gets quite busy by 5pm on Fridays due to the Lonnie McFadden Trio. The bartenders and servers work really hard, with great happy-hour deals.

This is a great club in a quiet neighborhood which made it feel like a special find. Visited on a Saturday night. Our waitress was amazing, she kept up with a major part of the club from what I could tell and people were never left waiting and the drinks were very good. Great customer service. Enjoyed the first band,... More

Not always easy to find good live music on a Monday night but you'll find it here. Tom and Millie provided great jazz and the open mic participants were strong (including servers). Everyone seemed to know each other (a la Cheers) but we were made most welcome. Food was fine too!

Small venue but cozy. Fun place to go and listen to live music. Wide variety of songs played. People were very friendly both wait staff and patrons. Definitely worth going.

We lucked out!! Wandering around DT and found the Phoenix. The music was fabulous, the "regular" singer reminded me a lot of Della Reeves. Our martinis were perfect and the sandwiches were great. Met some very friendly and helpful people (we were abode hunting). Hear its one of the best jazz clubs in town.

Working in downtown and having never been here, going on co-workers recommendations. This place is smaller, but also has outdoor seating. Great old historic building. Kitchen is downstairs so the stairs see lots of use. Good bar. Didn't get a chance to hang out, but will be going back.

Three of us visited the Phoenix more for the convenience of a meal than for the Jazz. However, their history is interesting as they were once on the edge of the Kansas City Garment District. Gather the Phoenix may have been a bordello style hotel with a speak easy bar on the first floor. So perhaps you want to visit,... More

We have been to the Phoenix many times and we always have a great evening. We love the atmosphere and the setting. The staff is great and is always checking on what we might need. We love all the food items we have selected. The 1/2 price apps(happy hour) is such a wonderful bargain. The Reuben is outstanding and their... More
