Fun evening

My son and I went here on a Friday evening to hear Lonnie McFadden who plays every Friday. It is a very popular and busy place, apparently visited by many regulars. We arrived at 4:00, and by 5:00 every table was full. There is a $5 cover charge, well worth it for McFadden who sings classic... read more

Since I was visiting solo I sat at the bar. The Jazz was good and not so overwhelming that you could hear to chat. The French toast was yummy. I also had scrambled eggs and bacon on the side which were good too. The mimosa was strong so it's good I was walking.

I've been here a couple time and found it very entertaining both times. Lonnie McFadden was playing and the guy is absolutely great. He's one of the best performers I've seen up close like this and he really engages the small audience. He plays most Friday nights early (like 4-8). Food was really good and the waitresses I've had were... More

Walked over from the hotel. Great jazz, nice old building, small and intimate, excellent service, good food. We really enjoyed the evening - AlaMode was playing.

On Friday from 4;30pm the regular Jazz band play. Without doubt this is the best evening/ late afternoon entertainment. We went for a quick look and stayed 4 hours till the end. Get there early and you can sit at a table. The atmosphere was great with an age range of 18 to 80 (literally). Just the best evening out... More

Came here whilst visiting a friend in Kansas. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, good food. We had avocado fries and steak Diane with mash and broccoli. Great selection of beers and wines, many by the glass. We came on a Monday night, was very busy. Music was more country than jazz, but still very enjoyable. Do visit if you're in Kansas!

We stayed at a hostel near the Phoenix Jazz Club and the owner recommended we visit there. Just a 1/2 block away. Good thing it was close because they do NOT water down their drinks, whew! You definitely get a bang for your buck! We arrived too late to sample their food as the kitchen was already closed, but the... More

Found the Phoenix on TripAdvisor when searching for something to do on my last night in KC. It was outstanding! A La Mode is the jazz trio every second Wednesday of the month - they are great! Combo of jazz and blues - and old tunes set to their jazz/blues blend. Totally enjoyed it. The female singer (can't remember her... More

Lonnie McFadden is well worth the trip from the Plaza. Get there early because seats fill up fast. Great food and yummy drinks. We will be back every time we go to Kansas City.

We saw Lonnie McFadden, Mark Lowrey and Donovan Bailey here on First Fridays in January. They are fabulous entertainers, and local musicians. Lonnie came through the crowd to say hi during their break, which was great. From a classical musicians' perspective, he is an awesome trumpeter! The place was packed, with standing room only after the 4:30 start. The servers... More
