Good Food, Great People

This is the place to stop for some good food and wonderful conversation with the locals. Amazing stories of resilience, hope and determination following the devastating tornado in May 2011.

I was surprised by the thoughtfulness of the menu. Although the name intrigued me, I assumed it would be more “home cooking” than a seasonal and somewhat complex menu. By complex I mean created by someone with a real pallet for flavors and how those translate with what is in season. I had the Harvest Spinach Apple Salad which is... More

The food was quite acceptable. Service was good. Prices were not unreasonable. The selection of beers was interesting

They make a black bean burger with avocado, jack cheese, and chipotle sauce that is truly memorable! Also loved the Rogue hazelnut brown ale, even if we hear worrisome things about Rogue. Himself gave his beef burger 4 out of 5.

Be sure to read the menu carefully.... I was fooled with fake crabmeat! Smoked Chicken dip is fantastic!

Consistently good food every time! And they have the BEST potato soup I've ever had! The ROC Fried Chicken Salad is always good.

When driving through Joplin to anywhere, usually its a gas or fast food stop. Wanted something better this trip and followed our GPS to the Red Onion Café. In a remodeled old brick building in old downtown Joplin, and a huge surprise to us. Nicely appointed with professional staff and a simple but unique menu for our lunch visit. I... More

Used to go there a lot years ago when family lived in that area. Was through Joplin and decided to swing by for lunch. Split the Downtown Grilled Chicken meal. Plenty of food for us. Chicken was perfect. Husband loved the potatoes. It is noisy and fun. Very personable staff.

Red Onion never fails. Food is always wonderful, Love the house salad dressing. Portions are more than one person can generally eat. Plan on waiting if you come for an evening meal, but the wait is worth it.
