Ranked #20 of 140 restaurants in Jefferson City
Certificate of Excellence 2013
Cuisines: American, Hamburgers, Pizza
Dining options: Late Night
Description: Prison Brews was opened in 2007 in a part of town that once housed the state penitentiary and is now experiencing residential / commercial re-growth. This has become a popular brewery with wood-fired pizzas, sandwiches, etc. It has completely embraced the "prison" kitsch feel with bars between the bar & dining area and pictures of the 1800's penitentiary historical artifact lining the walls. The menu items and beers on tap are also incorporated into the theme. There is a large dining area as well as large outdoor seating on the adjacent patio complete with bocce ball. A unique experience in a growing area of town.

We stopped in here for an early lunch, since it's right near the old penitentiary that we had stopped at. The two beers we tried were very good, and the service was very nice. Food was good, although average (which is perfectly fine.). The one detail I'd ask for would be to put some spicy mustard with the pretzels, instead... More

Went with a group of 16 girls and we got right in. Everyone working there was very friendly and helpful. The pesto chicken pizza was absolutely amazing! Everyone seemed to like what they ordered!

We were attracted by the fact that they brew their own beer. The beer was good and the sampler of their 7 brews was enough for us to pass up pints. The look is retro and the staff is friendly. We liked the food as my wife had the fish and chips and I had the veggie burger. It was... More

We ate there for lunch several days. Tried several different menu items and I would have to say the Buffalo chicken wrap was my favorite. was not very impressed with the pork sandwich or the brisket sandwich. Atmosphere is good. Staff and wait service was very good. Busy place for lunch.

My hubby had never been here before and I talked him into going. I've been telling him for some time now that the fried green beans are life changing. He wasn't to sure about them. I ordered the fried green beans and the applewood smoked bacon cheeseburger. It was soooooo good and I told my hubby to get one too... More

Been here many times, not far from my house and if you get the right things, you should thoroughly enjoy your time here. At one point or another, either myself or my wife have ordered probably 80% or more of their menu. Most of the items are very good, but not enough to elevate them above same said items at... More

Sometimes it's not the most fun thing in the world to walk into a restaurant on a Saturday night full of people who are boisterous and loud. But at Prison Brews, my wife and I experienced a little of that, and it seemed okay, given the atmosphere. I honestly couldn't tell you what my wife and I ordered, but the... More

You will be super disappointed in the "big cookie" so don't order it. Service good, urban and burger great. Stay away from their citrus brew but their honey wheat is great!

The food is a bit above average and the ambiance is great. I love the bocce ball courts and the patio area. It's not in a very good neighborhood. The beers brewed on site are pretty good.

I had read other reviews that were lackluster but I just had to try a place called Prison Brews. I took recommendations from my server Chelsea and ordered a Deathrow oatmeal stout which was very good and creamy. For dinner, had the Reuben with a Prison Town Brown to drink. All was very good and I was impressed with the... More
