Prison Brews was opened in 2007 in a part of town that once housed the state penitentiary and is now experiencing residential / commercial re-growth. This has become a popular brewery with wood-fired pizzas, sandwiches, etc. It has completely embraced the "prison" kitsch feel with bars between the bar & dining area and pictures of the 1800's penitentiary historical artifact lining the walls. The menu items and beers on tap are also incorporated into the theme. There is a large dining area as well as large outdoor seating on the adjacent patio complete with bocce ball. A unique experience in a growing area of town.

Great pizza!

Pizza was great! They make their own beer as well!! Good stuff!! We came in late and the main kitchen was closed. But they still had pizza!!! Really good!!

I wouldn't go for the food or the service, but it was fun and a great way to spend an evening. Food was average, service was slow, beer was cold, bocce was fun to watch.

We figured we may as well stick with a theme after touring the prison, so we decided to try Prison Brews. We were not disappointed! We had the fried pickle spears and the chicken pesto pizza. I also tried their micro sampler of all 7 of their house brewed beers. Everything was great, and I would definitely go back.

Prison Brews is an awesome place to eat. They of course make their own beer, but their food is totally outstanding!

We have been there twice. Both times the same, incredibly rude waitresses. Cold food. Poor and slow service. And the place wasn't busy either time. Couldn't find a manager, or even someone who pretended to be one. Tried to call to see if someone could wait on us, and they didn't even answer the phone. There will not be a... More

Locally owned microbrew. Beer is diverse and tasty! The lunch and dinners are fantastic. From stone oven pizza to sophisticated dinner specials. Best outdoor seating in Jeff City. Did I mention the great lagers and ales!
