Ranked #18 of 141 restaurants in Jefferson City
Cuisines: American, Hamburgers, Pizza
Dining options: Late Night
Description: Prison Brews was opened in 2007 in a part of town that once housed the state penitentiary and is now experiencing residential / commercial re-growth. This has become a popular brewery with wood-fired pizzas, sandwiches, etc. It has completely embraced the "prison" kitsch feel with bars between the bar & dining area and pictures of the 1800's penitentiary historical artifact lining the walls. The menu items and beers on tap are also incorporated into the theme. There is a large dining area as well as large outdoor seating on the adjacent patio complete with bocce ball. A unique experience in a growing area of town.

If you like hot beer, and fried catfish that has a garlicky taste and greasy soggy fries... then definitely go there, but If You're like me and want things cooked in fresh oil and not all kinds of differently seasoned things cooked in the same vat to ruin the taste of what You ordered, then honestly... stay away not worth... The decor is interesting but the food was so bad I could barely it half of my plate & I was starving. The catfish was the WORST catfish I ever had & the fries were too dark/overcooked & not hot. I chose this place to eat lunch with a friend & because her food was poor as we'll, I felt... More

We went in and go the brew sampler, which was incredibly fun to do. They recommend the cheese platter to go with it. Very good recommendation. Helps with the flavor profiles and clear your palate to move on to the next brew. The food was great too, and the staff was very friendly. They also sell their beers there for... More

The hotel attendant at the hotel we were staying at recommended this place.....said the food was great. We went on a Satureday early evening and there weren't more than a handful of tables occupied. That should have been the first clue...but of course i walked in anyway. I began to ask the waitress about what were the most popular things... More

Ate here for lunch on a Saturday. It's located in a rather rundown neighborhood - not dangerous, but not necessarily the kind of place you'd expect to find a micro brewery. Sufficient parking in the rear. During my visit the lot was half occupied by motorcycles which made me wonder if this was a biker joint. Not so. At least... More

Great atmosphere, good food and locally brewed beers. We travel to Jefferson City regularly and look forward to visiting Prison Brews whenever we can.

Great food and they have done a great job on making booths look like prison cells. Good prices on the food and great service for our large group

For Father's Day my family and I went to Prison Brews for lunch. From the minute we walked in, we were hooked. The young lady who greeted us at the door was very friendly and made us feel at home. Ok, at home may not be the best analogy since the place is set up like a prison, but we... More

Came here for an early dinner after touring the Capitol and driving by the old Missouri State Penitentiary (closed when we were in town) and parking was limited in the neighborhood. We parked across the street in front of an apartment / housing complex and some residents were yelling, which didn't make for an ideal location. We didn't have to... More

Decent beer. Good pizza. Had diner at the bar. The first bartender was supper busy and had problems dealing with the tree people seated at the bar. The young lady that replaced him did a better job. The IPA was decent. They could up the IT'S in my opinion. The steak pizza was amazing.
