Prison Brews was opened in 2007 in a part of town that once housed the state penitentiary and is now experiencing residential / commercial re-growth. This has become a popular brewery with wood-fired pizzas, sandwiches, etc. It has completely embraced the "prison" kitsch feel with bars between the bar & dining area and pictures of the 1800's penitentiary historical artifact lining the walls. The menu items and beers on tap are also incorporated into the theme. There is a large dining area as well as large outdoor seating on the adjacent patio complete with bocce ball. A unique experience in a growing area of town.

Good eats!

We ate here twice while visiting Jefferson City last week. Both times the food was pretty amazing. I feel like the service was seriously lacking though! This place is so amazing! There is a lot of memorabilia from the old State Penitentiary - to include bars from the cells. We have been here three times and everything has been great. It is a micro brewery and their beer sampler is an experience to remember. Make sure you take a designated driver!

We have eaten here a number of times. Really good bar food, brick oven pizza and a selection of 7 Prison brewed beers. I'm always surprised by the number of people who come for the food not the beer. The decor is fitting to their name. Also a nice outside patio however way too warm on most Missouri July days.

We went here after taking a tour of the penitentiary. Jail decor. We got the turkey wrap and fries. Fries were very good. Service was great. No issues.

This was a great place to eat! We were going to tour the prison on Sat, and heard about this place on Trip Advisor, and went on Friday! Fun prison theme. Loved the food, we sat outside, it was nice weather, Food was great!! Parking is tricky since this sits in a residential neighborhood, you have to keep driving around... More

Good micro-brewery. Nice selection of beers, although most seemed to be local versions of well-known beers, rather than really original recipes. Service was excellent - great waiter - and food was above-average pub-food. Their sweet potato fries were terrific!

Really good variety of food choices. They have wraps, burgers, pasta, and bbq. Be sure to try the Shawshank Redemption Cake. It's decorated with a prison theme. Everyone loved the beer they brew here.

We ate here after the MO State Penn tour. The food and beer were good and great service also. I tried a couple of the beers and found them very good.

I could have made a meal on the fresh cut fries. They left the skins on were seasoned just right and fried to perfection. I enjoyed the pork loin sandwich I had too. The homemade root beer had a nice flavor but was a little flat. The service was good. We sit outside since it was such a nice day.... More
