Description: Prison Brews was opened in 2007 in a part of town that once housed the state penitentiary and is now experiencing residential / commercial re-growth. This has become a popular brewery with wood-fired pizzas, sandwiches, etc. It has completely embraced the "prison" kitsch feel with bars between the bar & dining area and pictures of the 1800's penitentiary historical artifact lining the walls. The menu items and beers on tap are also incorporated into the theme. There is a large dining area as well as large outdoor seating on the adjacent patio complete with bocce ball. A unique experience in a growing area of town.

Food was ok, service was decent, the theme was really fun. We went to eat after touring the Missouri State Penitentiary. It was pretty drafty in the restaurant so we were pretty cold. The food took a little while to get. Overall it was enjoyable.

We visited here while visiting family in town. They have an excellent selection of beers to choose from and the food is good also with choices other than burgers like some brew pubs. Their kids menu also had a selection of choices other than the basics like a hamburger or mac n cheese (which they had as well). The place... More

The waitress we had was horrible. She had no personality at all and had an attitude. My husband and brother got their food and my pizza sat in the window for 15 minutes while the manager sat eating in the dining room. There was only 1 waitress and no team work at all. The food was not good at all.... More

Went here for a business dinner after finding it on Tripadvisor. The beer bread and spread was amazing!!!! I had the pork tenderloin and it was also great. The waitress was very nice and was helpful with nearby attractions. Unfortunately was unable to try any of the brews and did not have any place to keep a growler cool to... More

What else is there to say? I visit Jefferson City once every few years to visit my parents, and all of the times I've visited (and lived there) I never went to Prison Brews, I was missing out...Ordered the beer sampler and a pizza. Both were pretty awesome, the cost wasn't that bad either. Nice little brew pup in Jefferson... More

We went the day after visiting the old penitenary up the road. We were there about 11:30 and we're seated right away. They serve breakfast until 12 on Sunday but did notice a woman eating a pizza. Unsure why we didn't know about the pizza but the breakfast was phenomenal. I had the Western Omelet and my husband had the... More

A group of friends and family were in Jeff City, going on the State Penitentary Ghost Tour. We all met at the Prison Brews. My sister and I ordered an order of the dry rub wings. They were so salty we couldn't eat them. VERY disappointed in the burgers too!!!!!![too dry].

A group of 10 - four adults and 6 children stopped in for lunch. The neighborhood seems very rough. Please lock your car doors if you park on the street. Otherwise park around back. This was our first visit to the brew pub. I ordered the reuben with cheesy fries, wings and nachos for an appetizer for the family. The... More

We submitted our menus ahead of time and they were able to get us in and out very quickly and efficiently...plus the food was really GOOD! Great place to take a bus group. I would recommend!
