Very Good Local Dishes

Visit this wonderful small village and go to Cass do Forno for a great lunch. Very good local soup and the lamb stew type dish was excellent.

We had the lamb and it was well prepared. The bread, soup and salad were good, nothing spectacular. The wine was again good. Not a great restaurant from a food stand point, but the setting and the view make it well worth stopping at.

I enjoyed my lunch at the Casa do Forno. A nice choice in beautiful Monsaraz. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. Not the best meal during my vacation in Portugal, but certainly not bad at all. Good size portions. The service was a bit on the slow side at times, but it wasn't an issue. So I'd certainly recommend... More

Went to Monsaraz with a friend from Italy and wanted to show her some traditional dishes from Alentejo. The restaurant has a nice indoor area as well as a simple but refreshing outside area. The food is enough for the very hungry mouths and we had the bacalhau a bras and also the veal and pork meat which was all... More

We went to Casa do Forno to eat the traditional typical food. Inside the restaurant you have an old oven and outside there is a patio with a nice view to the sunset where we ate. You should not expect anything fancy, but the food was nicely prepared. You may find some typical dishes from Alentejo and also other more... More

This restaurant is not so easy to find : you can only see the door and no window but inside it's nice and they have a nice outside terace. The food was very good and the service was even better. The waiter was very nice without being to close. He was very profesional in giving advice on the menu and... More

Perhaps slightly more pricey than other restaurants, but we had a nice meal and the waiter was very friendly. The food was well prepared and tasty.

We were traveling with the Smithsonian Institution, and they chose this attractive and memorable restaurant for lunch. (The Smithsonian's choices are always good.) We had a delicious lunch in an attractive setting--arches, white walls, pottery. I was pleased that they were able to deal with my gluten-free diet with good food. The town--with views of the countryside and reservoir, 16th... More

I was rambling around the Alentejo and couldn't resist the look of Monsaraz perched up on the hill. This medieval village is beautiful and after clambering up the steep incline into the village and wandering its delightful streets I soon worked up an appetite. Casa do Forno seemed like a good option based on nothing other than the fabulously decorated... More

We were staying in Casa Pinto (see our separate review on this) which is the next property along from Casa do Forno. We decided to take a walk around the village and checkout the several restaurants that we had noticed earlier. This was at 7pm, after the heat of the day (37 degrees and not a breath of wind) had...
