I would have liked to give this a higher rating, but a couple slip-ups prevented that. We ate dinner here on a Sunday night. Our server was the teenage son of the owner, and he had been taught well about upselling. He was pleasant, funny, and chatty and many of the patrons enjoyed his wit. However... read more

We stopped to have local food in Hannibal for our Mark Twain visit. This is within walking distance from his boytown home. Inside is a tad outdated, in fact we almost left Bc of it, but it is a dinette. The young men servers were super friendly and helpful when deciding what to eat. We ordered smoked pork sandwiches (... Our dinners were delicious--cheeseburger and fried tenderloin with great onion rings Our waitress was friendly and efficient. The restaurant and the restrooms were clean. Our root beers were refilled repeatedly. Our bill was reasonable and the cashier was friendly and looked us in the eye when she asked if everything was okay. We have been to Mark Twain Dinette several... More

All 3 of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Portions were generous, good service at a reasonable price. I particularly enjoyed the homemade root beer.

Our waiter was the owner's son and he was very helpful and polite. The home maid root beer he suggested really hit the spot. The pulled pork sandwiches were great and came with a side of Sweet Baby Ray's so you could put your desired amount of sauce on the sandwich. We were able to sub onion rings as a... More

I give this place a good rating, not because it's anything special, but if you're a displaced Midwesterner and you are craving those eats, you've got to go to the Dinette. They have Maid Rites, a Classic Midwest delight, sort of like a Sloppy Joe without the sloppy part or tomato sauce. Like a loose hamburger...tasty stuff. And the big... More

Our poor server was just overwhelmed with our bus group of 30. The thing that was annoying was that the restaurant had been contacted beforehand and simply did not plan accordingly. The food was fine but nothing spectacular. The root beer float was NOT refilled during our meal. Really do not recommend this place with other options nearby.

I really liked this place (however, my companion was less than impressed feeling that the food was bland). We started off with the onion ring tower which was terrific -- a tower of onion rings - which were misshapen ovals, circles, and rings, so you just KNOW they were real onions and batter and not something out of a bag... Stopped for breakfast today. Went to women's restroom and there was no soap! I told two waitresses and one did confirm that there was no soap (she checked). Sure hope the wait staff has access to hot water and soap BEFORE they handle the food! Food was good but initial reaction to restroom just ruined my meal.

Kenna B, General Manager at Mark Twain Dinette, responded to this review

We're very sorry this situation wasn't explained in more detail to this customer in regards to this review. The waitress who went to check the soap in the women's restroom discovered that the dispenser did have soap in it, but was broken and needed to be replaced (something she did not have the tools to do). She informed a manager... More
