We went there tonight and had a good sample of their sushi rolls: Tuna, Samurai Warrior, Tiger, Dragon, Sunset, Dynamite, Crazy, Caterpillar, Volcano, Jurassic, CoMo, Kampai. Plus white tuna, salmon and scallop sashimi, along with edamame and seawood salad. And, mochi ice cream. Of course, a few beers, too. So...great service and good atmosphere, although access can be challenging especially if it is raining due to the "river alley" that is created. To the food critique...our favorite rolls were the Samurai, Tiger and Sunset. The rest were just okay, nothing we would order again. Most rolls seemed a little bland and uninspired. If we had to choose the worst, it would be the tuna, simply not good. The sashimi was consistent with other places, so it was average. Mochi for dessert was interesting, good and flavorful. Overall, it isn't anything special or above the other sushi places in town. While the owners may have come from St. Louis to try to make place in the Columbia market, they still have a ways to go.

Date night for sushi

This place is number one for sushi in COMO. They always have a fresh fish of the day, great beer taps, and quality service. The sushi almost makes you think you are on the west coast. Mmm

Make sure the lovely Emily is your waitress and tip her well. Cool place and really good food in a town with several good restaurants.

We were not expecting to find such delicious sushi in Columbia. The staff was very friendly and accomadating. We tried a lot of the specials as well as the pad thai and gyoza. Everything was fresh. Delicious Lychee martini and great saki. We were pleasantly surpised!

It is a romantically-dark, basement type location, with prefect lighting and really good sushi. It's a bit pricey, but sushi doesn't come cheap. The only entrance is through a well lit alley (very safe!..... The new hip thing in this town....that is....'alley businesses).... Anyway, I would make a date night out of this place.

My friend and I just tried Kampai this week and while it was a bit hard to locate, once we did it was a great experience. The restaurant itself is so neat. I love the inside and outside decor. The staff was friendly and very efficient. The sushi was great! It was presented so beautifully too. I had the kampai... More

Like the title says this is the best sushi in Columbia. Its in a cool location downtown (although a bit hard to find especially if you are from out of town) and the space is great. Large open indoor space with a nice balcony and a great outdoor patio when the weather is nice. The sushi is top notch for... More

Not the easiest place to find, but worth the effort! Amazing sushi and great service. Wait staff was friendly, attentive, and took time to explain menu. Frost Roll was one of the better sushi rolls I've ever had. Everything was ultra fresh and full of flavor. Prices are on par with other sushi restaurants of lower quality. If you get... More

We've been over and over, and as a fellow restaurant owner in Columbia this is always one of my favorite spots. We just recently went with family and ordered 5 appetizers, entrees, rolls, ect, and every single item on the table was amazing. If you want the best sushi in town, it's KAMPAI without a doubt!

We had 5 different rolls and all of them were delicious. The lobster roll was great and so were the spicy shrimp and tempura crab. After the sushi the fried ice-cream was excellent.

Elegant and very well prepared sushi and sashimi, with some amazing and unusual sides, like the deeply flavored and wonderfully textured brussel sprouts. They are a great side dish when shared, but would make a satisfying meal by themselves. The atmosphere is elegant and modern, and the service is exceptional.
